I f**king love swearing. It makes everything better and sometimes you just really got to let out a good:

Well if you are somebody like me, it looks like that we are just really damn smart. According to science (which is my favorite thing to say after making an outrageous claim), it seems so.

The University of Rochester surveyed 1,000 people about 400 everyday habits. Things like singing in the shower to swearing were asked about. The three things they concluded?

Smarter people:

– like to eat spicy breakfasts

– walk around their homes naked

– and are smart af

I don’t know about you fellow swearer-ers but I do all three of those. You know you do it too so don’t worry about it. The study was suppose to figure out which behaviors are related to personality types. What are a few other conclusions they found?

People that are extroverted like to speed while driving.

Also kind people love singing in the shower.

I feel like we could have all guessed these things though.

Another study says that when you swear during an argument you are able to persuade your point more effectively.

“By swearing, we not only communicate the meaning of a sentence, but also our emotional response to the meaning — our emotional reaction to something. It also allows us to express anger, disgust or pain, or indicate to someone that they need to back off, without having to resort to physical violence.”

This study, which was published in Taylor Francis Online, also says that people who curse tend to have higher levels of ingrity and are more honest.

What an instance when swearing won’t help?

When you’re getting a tattoo or taking a punch aka when you’re in pain.

According to Richard Stephens at Keele University, “people who frequently express their anger verbally tend to be more sensitive to both acute and chronic pain.”

The research showed that “these ‘trait anger out’ individuals also have a higher threshold for triggering endogenous opioid action in the brain.” In normal caveman talk? If you swear frequently and swear during pain, it will hurt even more.

For those of you that swear just when you have pain. Well you’re in luck because things will hurt less when you swear. Crazy how that works!?
