It’s been rumored for awhile that Barack and Michelle Obama were cooking up something big with Netflix. But it’s finally a reality! According to Netflix, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for Netflix, potentially including scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features.
That’s so open ended, it could mean anything. Just think of a scripted original show that is produced by Barack Obama! Or we could have a documentary series that’s hosted my Michelle…the possibilities are endless! After being arguably one of the cooler presidents in history, it just makes sense that he would ink a deal with Netflix.

It has been reported that the Obamas won’t be using their platform to address anything Trump related or ‘right-wing’ related. Moreover they will be aiming to address issues that should matter to us all.
In a statement according to The Independent, Barack Obama said this about the deal:
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience.”
He went onto say:
“That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix — we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.”
When I first read about what their goals were for this project, it made me think of Michelle Obama’s iconic speech at the Democratic National Convention.
Ted Sarandos, who is the Chief Content Officer for Netflix, explained a bit more about the partnership:
“Barack and Michelle Obama are among the world’s most respected and highly-recognised public figures and are uniquely positioned to discover and highlight stories of people who make a difference in their communities and strive to change the world for the better.
We are incredibly proud they have chosen to make Netflix the home for their formidable storytelling abilities.”
Since The President and First Lady left the White House, they have created the Obama Foundation which is located in Jackson Park, on the south side of Chicago. It’s also close to the University of Chicago.
Since Netflix released the news, right-wing people have been going crazy saying things like:
“Can they produce a special called “Why I Spied” about a corrupt President who spies on his opposition campaign on behalf of a corrupt candidate and still loses the election miserably. Of course, based loosely on real-life events.”
“Who would ever want to watch this lol”
Guess who’s deleting @netflix? Yup me

Thankfully, there were still other people that wanted this amazingness to happen…
Oh please let them win an Emmy so there's one more award Obama has that Trump never won.

This is exciting! But mostly it's exciting because it'll inevitably upset a whooooole lot of Trumpers.

It would be great if people could research their gripes before they make them. I won’t take a position on this, but if you look at it the other way around…doesn’t Trump show up on Fox all the time? Just some thoughts…
