I’ve never understood why Greenland is called Greenland and Iceland is called Iceland. It makes no sense, but maybe that’s why we remember them so well. Anyways, Greenland not being so green a lot of the year doesn’t help stray dogs and cats out much.
That’s where we this young tabby cat was hanging out, specifically in Nuuk, Greenland. She was brought to a shelter named, Dyrenes Venner, which appropriately translates to “Protector of Animals in Greenland.”

Once the volunteers brought in the cat, she made it clear how happy she was. They named her Ulla they were amazed at how friendly she was. Ulla cuddled with whoever she could including dogs, other cats and guinea pigs.
Inunnguaq Christiansen, who is a board member at Dyrenes Venner, had this to say to The Dodo:
“She’s very lovely and caring. I brought my own dog, Yaris, to the shelter one time and Ulla immediately jumped on the cage.”

When Ulla first arrived she was skinny, so when she started to put on some pounds the volunteers raised some eyebrows. Perhaps that plus her wanting to cuddle with everyone might have tipped them off to Ulla being pregnant.
Christiansen went onto say:
“One of the volunteers came with the comment that Ulla was getting pretty big. Upon closer inspection, it was only around the belly area, and her nipples were getting pretty stiff.”
They took Ulla to the veterinarian to see if she really was preggo!

And it was confirmed! Now the news surprised even Ulla. I’m pretty sure this a lot of new mom’s reactions is too! Tone Frank, one of the other board members, was with Ulla and took a couple pictures of her reaction.

Frank also posted the side by side onto Reddit and it went quickly viral.
Christiansen said:
“The pictures were so funny I decided to post them on /r/aww during my lunch break to see if a couple of people would share my amusement. A few hours later and the post was exploding with 90,000 upvotes and over 900 comments. I spent the entire evening trying to reply to people…We got some really sweet private messages from people thanking us for our efforts; it really lifted the mood for the volunteers at the shelter.”

Some of the Reddit commenters said:
“Not sure if that’s a face of excitement or disappointment”
“Lol, I can totally relate to that face. I was really surprised to learn I was pregnant. My husband and I were shocked, mostly due to the fact that I’m a guy.”
“He told me he was fixed!”
Christiansen concluded:
“She’s been living at a foster family since Thursday on a trial period, and they really want to keep her and all of her kittens.”
That sounds like a good sitcom, doesn’t it?!
