Fortnite has taken over the world if you like it or not. Pretty much any viral video that you see with a kid dancing is directly related to Fortnite dance celebrations. The game is still growing and reports are coming from the game’s creators that over three million people are playing each day. They just released that they have a total of 45 million players. That’s insane. What is also insane is that some kids are getting seriously addicted.
A nine-year-old girl has recently had to check-in to an actual rehab due to excessive Fortnite gameplay. Her parents spoke to The Daily Mirror about the incident and it seems they were very surprised to find out their daughter had been playing 10 hours a day.
Seems to me they should have been parenting a bit better if they didn’t realize this.
The girls mom, Carol, said this:
“We had no idea, when we let her play the game, of the addictive nature or the impact it could have on her mental health. She is in therapy for the addiction after she became withdrawn, agitated and disturbed from playing up to ten hours a day – sometimes playing until dawn, wetting herself so she didn’t have to leave the screen.”
AND YOU DIDN’T KNOW THIS CAROL?! Don’t submit her name for parent of the year.
The game is free to download, but the parents had also noticed charges to their credit card and suspected that their daughter was the source of them. When they confronted her though…well I’ll just let you hear it from them:
“Our daughter told us it could be some extras she’d paid for on Fortnite. Of course we were furious and confiscated her Xbox. But then she lashed out and hit my husband in the face.”
I’m surprised she didn’t pick-axe them in the face!
That wasn’t the only issue, the girl’s grades were declining and she was falling asleep in class. Carol went onto say:
“When we asked our daughter what the problem was, she became unusually argumentative and aggressive, which we just put down to her hormones.”
Then one night they saw their daughter’s light on in her room. The husband/dad, Richard went in and saw “her light on in the night and found her sitting on a urine-soaked cushion playing the game.”
The next morning, the child let everything out of the bag. Carol recalled that:
“Crying, she told us that every night for the past two months she had waited until we were asleep and then got up to play, sometimes until 5am.
We worked out that she could have been playing for up to ten hours a day, and we’d had no idea.”
The girl has since been placed in rehab and is going through psychotherapy to help her with her severe addiction. If you are a parent reading this, make sure you know what your kid is doing. Everything is okay in moderation, but when a child is refusing to pee…I think you have a problem on your hands…
