People don’t just turn 100 years old everyday, but it seems to be happening more often as science progresses. Whenever someone gets to an older age, they are asked what the secret to their long life was. Some say finding someone you love, some have said Pepsi and even others have nodded to alcohol as their fountain of youth.
Eileen Maher who just turned 100 years old has said the latter of those three and it’s not a beer I’d expect anyone to name and love.

Eileen is from England and she celebrated in her senior living facility with friends and staff members. Her husband Frank passed away three years ago and that’s the reason she moved to the care home. They didn’t have any children. She did speak about how she met Frank almost 70 years ago, saying:
“My friend told me to go to a local hotel as there was a man who was a fantastic pianist.
It turned out to be Frank and I went and fell in love with him – he was a great jazz pianist.”

She went onto say:
“We married in 1951 when I was 33.
We came to Blackpool for our honeymoon and never left.
We used to love to play tennis too but now I just enjoy listening to it as my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be.”
It may have taken a few more years than it should of, but she even celebrated with her first ever selfie!

Since Eileen didn’t have any family members, her friend Pauline Green came to pay her a visit. She trekked 250 miles to celebrate this joyous occasion. Pauline said this of Eileen:
“Eileen was my mother’s best friend.
They went on holidays, even the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), together.
I see her as my auntie, she’s a wonderful woman.”

Eileen was so surprised about her party, she said:
“It’s all been wonderful.
I didn’t expect a party but it’s lovely they have done something so special for me. Being content has helped me reach my 100th birthday.”

So how did she get to 100? Elaine Wright who is the care services manager said that:
“Eileen’s not big on bubbly so her favourite tipple was on tap – Stella Artois!
With a packet of custard creams, it’s her not-so-secret self-indulgence.”

So if you are looking to live a tad longer, maybe past 100 go grab a pint of Stella! You can tell the bartender that it’s for your health.
