Last year, Kate McClure was driving in Philadelphia at night and her car broke down. She was alone and didn’t know what to do, that was until Johnny Bobbitt came out of nowhere to help.
Bobbitt was homeless and he offered his last $20 to help McClure out. He said to her, lock the doors and he would be back with gas to help her back home. She was blown away by his kindness and eventually set up a GoFundMe for people to donate to.

She wrote on GoFundMe:
“Johnny did not ask me for a dollar, and I couldn’t repay him at that moment because I didn’t have any cash, but I have been stopping by his spot for the past few weeks. I repaid him for the gas, gave him a jacket, gloves, a hat, and warm socks, and I give him a few dollars every time I see him.
I wish that I could do more for this selfless man, who went out of his way just to help me that day. He is such a great guy, and talking to him each time I see him makes me want to help him more and more.”

Bobbitt is a homeless man what is also a veteran. He had fallen on tough times, turning to drugs and such and this was really going to help him. They eventually raised $400,000 and things were looking great. The thing is, he never got all the money.
Chris Fallon, Bobbitt’s attorney, told CNN:
“From what I can see, the GoFundMe account raised $402,000 and GoFundMe charged a fee of approximately $30,000.
Mark D’Amico and Kate McClure gave Johnny about $75,000. There should be close to another $300,000 available to Johnny.”

Kate along with her boyfriend Mark D’Amico, say they have given about half to Bobbitt. For now, Bobbitt is back on the streets and using drugs again. The couple says that he used $25,000 in less than two weeks and have been upholding the rest.
Basically the couple took it upon themselves to be the caretakers of his money.
GoFundMe gave a statement about the subject:
“When there is a dispute, we work with all parties involved to ensure funds go to the right place.
We will work to ensure that Johnny receives the help he deserves and that the donors’ intentions are honored.”

Bobbitt’s other attorney, Jacqueline Promislo said that:
“This was not his choice and he didn’t have any say in the matter. Johnny would have preferred to go back to North Carolina. That would have been a much better environment.”
Hopefully this all gets sorted out and Bobbitt can understand how to manage his money more wisely and get off drugs.
