It seems the Loch Ness Monster might be a little bit lost.
An Alaska Bureau of Land Management employee was checking out ice on the Chena River Wednesday when he saw a “strange thing” that was slowly moving up the river, according to KCPQ.
Unable to identify or explain the strange creature, the Bureau uploaded footage of it to their Facebook page, where it quickly amassed over 100,000 views and more than 2,200 shares.
“Our employees did not investigate,” the BLM admitted on its Facebook page. “It’s kind of far out in the middle of the river.”
“We’re not sure what it is,” they continued. “We’re letting you all be the judge.”
The internet has surely taken that last part very literally, as Facebook users have begun wildly speculating what the strange animal could be in the comments.
“HUGH EEL,” one man wrote.
“Maybe a large pike..” commented another.
“Giant sturgeon that shouldn’t be here??!!??” one panicked.
One clever user even guessed that the video was just the Bureau’s fun way of wishing everyone a spooky Halloween.
“These replies are great!,” said Doug Fournier. “And better yet is the fact that the BLM folks added the ominous music to the video! I think someone is having some Halloween fun!”
But the organization is sticking to their guns.
“Our employees did have fun with the music,” a spokesperson replied. “But like you all we honestly don’t know exactly what it is. But all the guesses are great!”
We suppose for now, there really is just one explanation … and we’re sure she’s missing Scotland very, very much.
