Prince Harry To Prince Charles After Diana’s Death: ‘Is It True That Mummy’s Dead?’

Despite reports that Queen Elizabeth II told her grandsons to stop “soul-baring,” Prince William and Prince Harry have recently begun speaking out more about the effects of their mother’s untimely death. And now, a new documentary on Channel 5, “Diana: 7 Days That Shook The Windsors,” is shining a light on the immediate aftermath.

According to the Daily Mail, biographer Tina Brown reveals that Prince Harry, 12 years old at the time, couldn’t wrap his head around the tragedy. Because the royal family went on as usual for the sake of the young boys — even going to church only hours after Diana had passed — Harry felt he had to confirm that the unthinkable had indeed happened.

“Prince Harry actually asked his father, ‘Is it true that Mummy’s dead?'” Brown discloses in the program.

His confusion also seemed to stem from the fact that the late Princess of Wales wasn’t even mentioned at the Sunday service. While some say Queen Elizabeth made that decision so as not to upset her grandsons, others say it echoed the “cold detachment” Princess Diana felt from the royal family throughout her life.
