This past weekend was a tough one for Meghan Markle to say the least.
Markle’s father, Thomas, went public with letters that she had sent him in the past few years.
And while that is one way to get someone’s attention, it is not always the correct thing to do.
One source who is close to the Duchess disclosed to Vanity Fair how Meghan has only had one conversation with her father since she married Prince Harry.
She also gave him a huge ultimatum regarding their relationship and he did not respect it.
“Meghan made it clear that they could only have a relationship if he kept his silence,” the source shared. “She told him that he couldn’t speak to the press, plain and simple. But he keeps doing that, and so she feels that she cannot trust him.”
And understandably so.
But since the wedding, Thomas has given many interviews — sharing how the royal family is “freezing him out.”
“[Meghan] has also said if they are to have a relationship, then he has to cut off contact with the rest of his family, including Samantha, who Meghan blames for a lot of the problems with her father. The thing is, whatever Samantha has done, she is still Thomas’s daughter, so that’s a hard call. And as for speaking to the press, he says he doesn’t know how else to get Meghan’s attention.”
Thomas shared with The Daily Mail how he has been shut out after “dozens of attempts to reach my daughter.”
Most of the interviews with him are negative and chalk-full of complaining but he did defend Meghan in regards to her “feud” with Kate Middleton.
“I don’t recognize this person,” Thomas shared in regards to the apparent feud. “The Meghan I know was always sweet, kind, generous. She was always demanding but never rude.”
Meghan’s father also went onto share how she would visit him at work on TV sets and how she was always very respectful of those surrounding her.
“I taught her to have respect for the crew. They can make you look good or awful,” he then added: “I don’t pretend to know what she’s like now.”
The alleged feud that caused a stir was first concocted by the U.K.’s The Sun. It alleged how the Duchess of Cambridge was upset with Markle in regards to how she treated a member of Prince William’s wife’s staff prior to the Duchess of Sussex getting married to Prince Harry in May.
The Kensington Palace than issued a statement to People magazine in response to the “feud” between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton saying: “This never happened.”
According to People magazine, the fact that the palace commented in the first place was very surprising as usually, the household does not give any attention to speculative reports.
Currently, Markle and Prince Harry are slated to move out of Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cotttage at Windsor Castle before the birth of their first child.
Kensington Palace is where both Prince William and Kate Middleton along with their children, live.
