With all the craziness going on with our current president, we have a flicker of encouragement for you featuring the former president.
Mr. Barack Obama delivered gifts to patients at Washington’s Children’s National Hospital last Wednesday and prepare to fog up a bit — because this story is a tear-jerker.
The hospital shared footage of Obama, who was wearing a Santa hat, carrying a bag of presents to light up little ones faces.
Obama told the children how Santa’s reindeer were “stuck in the snow,” but how he wanted to be sure they received their gifts.
The footage shows Obama handing out gifts, dances and hugs — all the while, patients singing carols and snapping the former president’s photo.
And to make his appearance even more sweet, he additionally recorded a message for those that he did not have time to visit.
“I had a chance to talk to some of the wonderful kids and their families and at a time that’s obviously tough for a lot of folks. And as the dad of two girls I can only imagine in that situation to have nurses, staff, doctors, and people who are caring for them and looking after them and listening to them, and just there for them and holding their hand. That’s the most important thing there is. What a great reminder of what the holiday spirit’s supposed to be all about,” said the former president.”
The hospital then tweeted back at Obama, saying:
“Thank you Barack Obama for making our patients’ day so much brighter. Your surprise warmed our hallways and put smiles on everyone’s faces! Our patients loved your company…and your gifts!”
To which the former president replied:
“Merry Christmas and happy holidays to the extraordinary kids, families, and staff at Children’s National. And thanks for humoring me as your stand-in Santa.”
Obama even took time to come into patient’s rooms, sharing with one nervous 12-year-old about heading to high school how “Even the cool kids don’t have it all figured out,” according to The Washington Post.
Obama gave out his grandmother’s favorite pastime, jigsaw puzzles, along with Hot Wheels sets, remote control cars, along with glittery nail polish to name just a few.
“This is what a man of class does. He’s adored, not just because he was a great president, but he’s an even better person. Your guy is too busy robbing people using his charity foundation. This man is taking his time spending time at a children’s hospital. Class.”
“I’m 6’7, 350 pounds and I’m sorry I got tears in my eyes. Thanks Mr. President. Miss this. Blessings.”
“We had him. We took decency and honesty and humanity for granted. Never again. Let’s get back to this.”
“….goodness just gets the tear ducts going these days. Watching those children spontaneously reach out for hugs….”
“They wouldn’t do that for the current potus. Children are intuitive, they know the fabric of the man.”
