With bad news around filling up our feeds on the daily — hearing a tale of sweetness seems to be rarity.
But lucky for you, one story was recently shared to Reddit and let’s just say there are no evil plot twists or hidden agendas — just good ole fashion kindness.
The only warning we will give you is a “misty-eyed” one….
This past Sunday, Reddit user u/effectivepep shared a photo of a letter written by an 86-year-old man who recently purchased a VHS player on eBay.

The letter read:
“I found many old VHS tapes recently and wanted to see what is on them and realized I had no player. So I went to EBay for the first time and discovered your offer.”
“I bought your VHS and you shipped it within a few days. The VHS looks new and unused. Amazing. I had some issues getting it going which were mine and not the player. I am 86 and perhaps not up to my game but I do get there eventually. And I did, and discovered the VHS works perfectly.”
“Thank you so much for your care, your efforts and your promptness.”

“I watched tapes of my retirement party from 25 years ago which I had never seen before. Jeez, we were young. then a tape of my wedding with all the family and friends, many of which are no longer around. Then skiing trips, kids growing up, travels and most importantly the gentle maturing of my family. Each one more fun that the last. All thanks to your generous selling of the VHS player. “
“I thought you would appreciate how much someone has enjoyed your offer.”

Folks were touched, saying:
“When someone takes the time and effort to write you a letter for something so small, I remember how kind we as a people can be.”
“At that age, you typically aren’t outgoing and home bound a lot of the time though I have known someone in their 90s who is very active. Elderly people who are still blessed with their minds spend a lot of time going over their lives in their heads and their fondest memories. I’ll bet this man cried when he saw the old footage brought to life, to see his memories once more. Must have felt powerful to receive that letter from him.”

“Think of how many letters like this will be missed in a few decades…I don’t see emails or reviews being printed out or cherished like this.”
“Deeply touching and bittersweet. 86 is not a spring chicken, this person likely spends a lot of time thinking nostalgically about their past life. The ability to see their wedding and other family memories in absolutely invaluable. The VHS brings life to memories that may have been growing fuzzy. That must have brought so much peace and closure to this person. Knowing that I had that impact on someone’s life would make me so proud.”
