Billy By’s dad opened his very own donut shop in Missouri City, Texas.
Sweet right?
Well, at first — there was absolutely no one at the door.
The space was so empty that Billy’s son decided to take a few pics and post them to Twitter to gather interest.
The tweet included the empty parking lot along with his dad behind the counter waiting for customers.
Billy wrote:
“My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop,” Billy said.
Additionally, he also shared the shop’s address as well as Instagram handle so folks could stop by.
It was not long before peopled noticed Billy’s sad dad and the tweet started to go viral.
Casey Neistat, a YouTube personality, tweeted out “OMW,” to his nearly 2 million followers.
And it was not long before business was exploding.
Billy shared the following update the day after his original tweet:
“Just wanted to update y’all! We completely sold out of donuts and kolaches! You are all amazing. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting local businesses. This means so much to my family.”
The story even reached Twitter’s official account — where they decided to share the love from their account as well.
Let’s just say, Billy’s dad isn’t sad anymore…
Currently, the Twitter account has amassed over 18.3K likes.
One shining review boasted:
“I love Billy’s Donuts! It’s my new favorite doughnut place for plain glazed donuts and their super delicious kolaches. Billy’s is just your regular good old fashioned doughnut shop without all of the overly fancy “gourmet” doughnuts with all the wacky toppings. There is something about the sugary goodness of their plain glazed donuts, and you can easily tell the difference between theirs and others like Shipley’s. Even if you happen to get a plain glazed that’s been sitting for a while, it still tastes so fresh, but of course, they’re awesome when their still warm, so you have to get there at just the right time, usually when they’re busiest, so that you can always have a fresh and warm plain glazed doughnut.
Their kolaches are unlike any I’ve ever had. The breading is so soft and moist. Whether you get the large or the regular sized kolaches, the bread is almost croissant-like. In their kolaches they also use smoked sausages, and one large is easily filling, especially paired with a plain glazed doughnut.
Billy’s is so good, I’ve even been able to convert die hard Shipley’s doughnuts family members. Every time they come down to visit, now they bring back 2 dozen Billy’s kolaches and doughnuts instead of Shipley’s.
Again, don’t expect to find fancy wacky flavored doughnuts here. I have tried, and loved, their other doughnuts which are just as equally delicious, but see if you don’t fall in love with their plain glazed and their kolaches.”
