Giving birth in America even with insurance is sky-rocket high

Having a baby is hard enough — but the cost? For parents in America, they face some of the highest medical bills despite being insured.

New research has recently revealed that the cost of giving birth in America with employer-sponsored health insurance has increased significantly in the past few years.

The study, which was published in the January 2020 edition of the journal Health Affairs, looked at over 650,000 women who delivered babies in the the United States between 2008 and 2015, “before and after” the Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010.

These women were then all enrolled in massive employer-sponsored health insurance plans that tend to cover more than those purchased by small businesses or individuals — only covering half of U.S. births.
