If you live in New York, let your frustrations out on these yellow punching bags placed around the city

During the 2019 New York City Design Week, hundreds of artists as well as designers came to the city to showcase their work.

And with tons of events, exhibitions as well as installations – it makes sense why the art as well as the design pieces were displayed in predetermined locations like galleries and parks.

There were also a few spaces on the corner of the streets.

Punching bags to be specific.

The project addresses how human emotions are exhibited and dealt with in a public setting, titled “Public Punching Bags.”

“The concept explores designing common spaces for the frustrations we all face [ones] that go beyond designed systems and happen, well, because we are human,” the studio went on to explain.

The punching bag works as an outlet for those emotions. The team behind donttakethisthewrongway hopes that it could help folks find a healthier way to “address personal and collective issues in a public setting.”

The dtttww clan hoped the users could utilize the punching bags as a way to let out some steam:

“The concept explores designing common spaces for the emotions we all face. Good or bad, as we travel from point A to point B we deal with a good number of frustrations. Frustrations that go beyond designed systems and happen, well, because we are human. The public punching bag offers an outlet for these emotions as a means to maybe develop a healthier way to address personal and collective issues in a public setting.”

The design studio hails from the south, their design language boasting “a playful attitude towards products that tackle serious issues, or as they frame it, slippery situations.”

And it did not take long for many NYCers to punch the bags — including children as well as adults.

“This is AWESOME. I don’t know who to thank for this – OH MY WORD – THANK YOU! We need more of this. A public punching bag!” one participater commented under a picture of herself punching the bag.

While another – who did not share her enthusiasm – said:

“Absolutely terrible idea … Violence in any form is a bad idea.”

So while punching may be up for debate — we can’t deny it looks tempting!
