Dog Makes Miraculous Recovery After Being Injected With Drug Cocktail By Children

If you can’t be nice to dogs and animals and general, you should probably just exit this article. It’s not for you. Now that we have all the dog supporters in the house, get the tissues for this feel good story because it’s amazing.

When people saw Suzi not moving on the street, they called animal control immediately. Since she laid right outside a known drug house, they were scared for whatever had happened to the dog.

After a drug test their suspicions were confirmed, there was cocaine and THC inside her.

Image Via Faithful Friends Animal Shelter

Suzi went to Faithful Friends Animal Shelter where she was instantly hooked up to an IV to get fluids in her and hopefully flush the drugs out of her system. Kevin Rentz, the marketing manager at the shelter, spoke to The Dodo and said:

“When she first arrived, she was unable to walk, stand, eat or drink. Our vets had never seen a mistreatment dealing with narcotics like this. It was heartbreaking.”

Image Via Faithful Friends Animal Shelter

She was kept in a cage to make sure she recovered swiftly and the staff made sure she was comfy. She was quite out of it, and was barely responsive.

Image Via Faithful Friends Animal Shelter

Thankfully after just two days of constant care, Suzi was starting to show signs of recovery to the Faithful Friends Animal Shelter team. Rentz said:

“She stole the hearts of all the vets and techs here. Once the drugs had started leaving her system, you could see her personality perk up.”

Image Via Rosa Alicea

After a few more days she recovered to full health and was running outside and playing with toys. The staff thought she had never even had toys and that’s why she was so excited.

Suzi went viral and appeared on a few news outlets due to her amazing recovery and story.

Now it was time for Suzi to find a forever home and Aida Alicea heard about Suzi because of her viral fame. She and her family went to the shelter to see if Suzi was still available. She told The Dodo as well:

“We were devastated to hear that someone, especially kids, would do something so cruel. When we saw her for the first time, she was laying in the shelter cage and she just looked up at us. She was so calm, never barked, not fazed by all the barking around her.”

Image Via Faithful Friends Animal Shelter

If it’s not obvious by now, the Alicea family fell in love with Suzi and adopted her! It turns out that their family dog growing up was also named Suzi and had similar coloring…so it was destined to be!

Family Didn’t Want Their Dog Anymore And Tied Him Up In A Blizzard, Then These Guys Saved Him

This Winter has especially been crazy cold this year and we all have to think of our furry friends when the temperature dips into the single digits. Just as you would check on an elderly neighbor, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to check on your doggy neighbors. That’s what happened to a neighbor in Detroit.

They had first noticed the pupper a day earlier tied up outside. A cold blizzard was bustling around outdoors though so once they saw the dog still out there the next day, she had to do something.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue

She called Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue who seem like they are in the news a lot when it comes to these types of things. They are the guardian angels of shelters in Detroit it seems.

Theresa Sumpter, the head honcho over at the Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue, told The Dodo, “We received a call from a citizen of Detroit who seemed to be very frantic that her neighbors were leaving this dog outside in the cold, and left her out all night. She was holding her paws up because she was so cold. If we didn’t come and help this dog, this concerned citizen was afraid that this dog would die.”

After receiving the urgent call, everyone at Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue sprung into action and got their gear together to save this sweet dog. That’s when the story got…weird.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue

Once the crew arrived they found that the dog hadn’t been abandoned and the family was inside the house…

They refused to talk to the rescue team and eventually the neighbor that had made the call went inside. She eventually convinced them to surrender the dog to the rescue team. The family had another dog inside but had basically abandoned the one outside and the rescue team took the freezing cold dog away.

They promptly named her Blizzard and she was the sweetest dog. She instantly was licking her savior’s faces and they knew they had done the right thing.

Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue

On the way to the shelter, Blizzard curled up in the warmth of the truck and took a nap. She probably knew she was on her way to safety (AND TREATS!).

Blizzard had to get to the vet right away due to her frostbitten and swollen paws. “She’ll make a full recovery,” Sumpter recalled. “But it was pretty bad, and she was really cold.”

Thankfully she made a quick recovery, and after the vet she went straight into foster care with a couple other pups, Noelle and Cholo. Look how happy they all look!

Despicable Man Moves To California And Leaves His Dog Behind But Rescuers Got There Just In Time

People really need to learn how to treat dogs right in 2018. If I had a super power, I think I would make it so dogs could talk, maybe then people would pay attention to their feelings and not just see them as a dog.

If this sweet pup, named Rubble, had been able to tell her owner some words, they might have been more NSFW. He left his home in Houston, Texas for California and left Rubble behind.

And no he didn’t leave her to another family, he left her like you leave an old fridge out for the garbage man. Yeah with no food or anything, Rubble was left in the dust.

A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue

Originally Rubble was bought for breeding purposes, but once she wasn’t able to perform those her owner didn’t see a reason to keep her. His family learned of his transgressions and called him repeatedly and didn’t get a response.

RELATED: Scared Rescue Pup With No Hair When He Was First Found Transforms Into The Cutest Furball

So they reached out to the dog community of the area and looked for a rescue shelter. Luckily, Alyssa Aguilar came to the rescue along with her boyfriend.

At that point, Rubble was in bad shapes looking very skinny from malnourishment. Along with that, she had gotten a skin condition and had scabs all over her from trying to lick them. Rubble needs a vet immediately.

A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue

Aguilar told The Dodo:

“When I first saw her, I was in shock, then got angry. I just wanted to hug her and make her feel better. I was very upset that she was sleeping outside with her skin looking so bad. My heart broke for her.”

It seems like Aguilar was a human being, unlike Rubble’s previous owner. Aguilar went onto say, “Rubble was in great spirits. She came to smell us and let us pet her. She was such a friendly baby.”

A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue

Aguilar took Rubble to the vet as well as got in touch with her friend Laura Forma, who worked for “A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue.” They would eventually take Rubble in and care for her.

A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue

Once they got to the vet, they weighed her and she was a dismal 44 pounds. Bulldogs like her are supposed to be near 80 pounds! Rubble had a few things wrong with her but she got treatment immediately which started her road to recovery.

A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue

After the vet, Alyssa Staloch took Rubble to be her foster mom until she could find her forever home. Staloch said, “She is a very sweet girl who just wants to love. She doesn’t crawl in your lap, but she gets as close to you as possible and rests her head on you.”

So Rubble is just like us all then right?

Jessica Russell, founder and president of A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue also told The Dodo:

“She is in bad shape, but we know that she deserves a second chance to shine. At the end of the day, every dog deserves a chance.”

After His Original Mom Rejected Him, This Lamb Decided That This Retriever Pup Was His New Mom

Meet Jerry, an adorable lamb that got the short end of the stick right when he came into existence. He was the runt of the litter and was rejected by his mother because she wanted to care for the larger, more healthy lambs in her litter. Nature can sure be mean sometimes right?

Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary

The farmer knew he would have to be bottle-fed and it just wasn’t worth it in his mind. He wouldn’t survive without that. That’s when Megan Mostacci, cofounder of Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary, came to the rescue.

She told The Dodo:

“He would never get big enough to be ‘worth it’ [for the farmer]. We got him and soon realized he also had a bad respiratory infection and a septic infection in all his joints.”

Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary

Mostacci rushed Jerry to the veterinarian because of this and he was on the road to recovery. Two instrumental parts of Jerry’s recovery was Mostacci’s dogs, a Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever named Drake and an Australian shepherd named Lincoln.

Drake took a particular liking to Jerry and the two bonded instantly. Mostacci said that, “He was cleaning him, cuddling with him … just being there with him.”

Can we get a collective AWWWWW in the comments?! Look at these two!

Jerry has since recovered from his slight sickness and has been hanging out with other animals at the Sanctuary as well.

Mostacci said, “He is doing amazing now after a week of antibiotics! He’s running and playing like a happy little lamb should.”

Now he was hanging outside with the other farm type animals, but he couldn’t forget about Drake. Mostacci continued by saying, “I left for a couple minutes and came back to this. Most lambs sleep on top of their mamas. And Jerry does this with Drake.”

Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary

Jerry is just two weeks old, but is settling in just fine. The two seem to be inseparable and it’s adorable.

Black Goat Farm and Sanctuary

Now let’s not forget about Lincoln, the other doggo! “They take turns cleaning his [Jerry’s] face after he has his bottle.” Both dogs can’t get enough of Jerry. They are just so cute!

Let’s just hope all these animals live happily ever after at this amazing farm facility.

If Jerry couldn’t get any cuter he just had a YOGA CLASS!

Sadly, The Last Male Northern White Rhino On The Planet Has Passed Away

The world has lost one of it’s great souls. Yes we lost Stephen Hawking but that’s not who I’m talking about. Sudan, the last male northern white rhino has died at a conservatory in Kenya.

He was named after the country he was born in, and he first lived at the Dvůr Králové Zoo in the Czech Republic. He lived there for most of his life but in 2009 he was moved to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. There he lived with two lady rhinos, Fatu and Najin.

RELATED: Runners Hear Some Rustling Leaves, Moments Later They Are Saving Five Puppy’s Lives

Image Via stevepennells Instagram

They hoped that living with the two female rhinos would help them mate, and save the species from going extinct. Sadly that never happened.

At the Conservancy, he was guarded by armed guards 24/7 to make sure no poachers would get to him. They even removed his horn to make them not want to poach him even more.

Since he was never able to procreate, they worked on a different plan. They wrote on their blog:

“Preparations have kicked off in Kenya and Europe for the long-anticipated procedure that is hoped to help to save the northern white rhinos from the brink of extinction. With only three aging northern white rhino individuals left, this subspecies faces extinction if new representative offspring are not produced.”

Image Via mvndeep Instagram

Experts have been working the past two years to prepare for this type of event. They look to use a southern white rhino surrogate to carry a northern white rhino embryo. Sperm from the deceased male rhinos have been stored in Berlin, Germany.

As for Najin and Fatu, their eggs have been taken to be later fertilized in the lab.

Image Via Frank AF Petersens

“The fate of the northern white rhino subspecies depends on this operation going smoothly.”

All rhino species are a target for extinction sadly, due to poachers that have no souls. People in Asia believe (even though this is not backed up by science) that the substance, keratin, which is in their horns has powerful healing elements.

RELATED: 87-Year-Old Grandma Becomes A Viral Microsoft Paint Artist And Even Picasso Would Be Jealous

They think it can cure things from hangovers to cancer. Fun fact…keratin is found in all of our finger nails, but you don’t see people poaching people (at least for that reason).

Millions used to habit Asia and Africa and now researchers think only 30k of all rhinos among all species remain.

Jan Stejskal, an official at Dvur Kralove Zoo said this:

“His death is a cruel symbol of human disregard for nature and it saddened everyone who knew him. But we should not give up.

We must take advantage of the unique situation in which cellular technologies are utilized for conservation of critically endangered species. It may sound unbelievable, but thanks to the newly developed techniques even Sudan could still have an offspring.”

Runners Hear Some Rustling Leaves, Moments Later They Are Saving Five Puppy’s Lives

Dogs can show up into our lives at any time. One time a buddy and I were driving down the backroads of Illinois and we found a pupper in the woods. It happens all the time, but it seems like Ashley Blake and her running partner Joshua Scott found a few more pups than one!

They were out running along a trail in Tennessee, and were already six miles into their run through Frozen Head State Park when they heard something. Was it Bigfoot? Was it Hillary Clinton wandering the woods again?

Blake told The Dodo:

“It was just a little rustling that caught us. It’s usual to hear forest critters, and that’s what we expected. We turned and saw this black pile.”

Image Via Ashley Blake

Did I just hear your heart drop? Yes, yes I did.

They two took a few steps towards the black pile and finally realized what it was!

“It was five puppies huddled together. It was close to freezing temperatures and they were trying to stay warm. As trail runners, you see a lot of wildlife, but never puppies.”

They probably thought it was a black bear cub (I have no idea if they are in Tennessee don’t @ me) but were pleasantly surprised to see the little puppies huddling for warmth.

Image Via Ashley Blake

Blake and Scott called the Park Ranger to help out. And then they started to cuddle the doggos to keep them warm.

“They were terrified and crying. They settled down once they realized we weren’t going to harm them and we were warm.”

The ranger eventually came with a truck to help out with the puppies and shortly they figured out that the puppies didn’t just happen to be there. Sadly the ranger confirmed to Scott and Blake that this wasn’t the first time he had seen this.

They said:

“They were dumped without food, water, blanket or mother. The park ranger said this isn’t the first time pups have been dumped at this spot.”

Image Via Ashley Blake

Blake continued to tell The Dodo:

“We finished our run with renewed energy over the excitement of what had all just happened. A true animal rescue. I don’t doubt for a second they would have frozen that night or become prey for the wild critters.”

They couldn’t stop thinking about the pups they had rescued though and decided to go see them later that day at the ranger’s house. He was keeping there that day until they had a arranged a rescue shelter to pick them up.

Image Via Ashley Blake

Scott decided to keep a pup that they had saved, but sadly couldn’t keep them all. Eventually the four others went to Oak Ridge Animal Shelter. They are currently looking for their forever homes. Thank goodness that they had the opportunity to do so!

Take a look at Winky, Willow, Winnie and Wendy!

If you are in the Tennessee area, I’m sure these pups would be the perfect addition to your family!

Most Loyal Dog Ever Refuses To Leave The Hospital Where His Owner And Best Friend Passed Away At

Dogs are the most loving creatures we know out there. They have the purest of hearts and always just want to give more love. That’s the story of this dog who doesn’t understand where his owner has gone to, and bring out the Kleenex for this one.

Cristine Sardella came to her local hospital in Brazil when she saw a dog that was outside the doorway to the hospital. He was surprisingly polite, letting people pass him and moving when he needed to. It was peculiar to Sardella, she thought he was waiting for someone but they never came.

She decided to ask the hospital staff what was going on with him.

Image Via Cristine Sardella

They told her that he had belonged to a homeless man who had come to the hospital a couple months prior. He had been stabbed in the park, and after the ambulance came to get him the dog chased after the sirens.

RELATED: Stray Dog Has Unbelievable Transformation After Being Saved From The Streets

After going inside, the dog stayed right where he is till today, the last place he saw his best friend.

Sardella told The Dodo:

“It’s sad to know that he will never see his owner again and will not understand what happened. The only thing left is to wait at the last place where he saw him.”

Image Via Cristine Sardella

Since the dog parking himself outside the hospital, staff have been bringing him food and water. Sardella wanted to do something but she already had a couple dogs of her own.

She posted this on Facebook:

It roughly translates to:

“We have a lot to learn from animals. This dog stays every day at the door of the Santa Casa de novo horizonte waiting for its owner who unfortunately passed away. I hear it’s powered by some people.

Waiting for him is in vain, but the love he nurture for the owner is eternal. I also observe the respect that the officials of the holy house have for him. And so follow life, animals teaching men true love.”

RELATED: Gus Kenworthy Is A True American Hero After Rescuing Over 90 Dogs From A Korean Meat Farm After The Olympics

The post got a bit of attention and a dog rescue came to try and save the day. But then something even crazier happened, once they got him to a rescue shelter, he escaped.

Sardella explained that, “He fled across the city. He walked over 3 kilometers and returned to the hospital.”

Image Via Cristine Sardella

Now he’s still at the door of the hospital. An employee has agreed to adopt him once the time’s right but it seems like he’s there to stay for now. They are still feeding and bring the pup water. As he gets more comfortable with the hospital staff, they intend to take him to the veterinarian to get him checked out.

The hospital director, Osvaldo Sobrinh, told The Dodo that, “He will have a very affectionate home with our employee.”

Rescuers Find The Saddest Eagle Tied To A Pole Because Of Poachers

Poachers and people who hurt animals for a living are the worst. Now it’s not going to make me a vegetarian anytime soon, but something needs to be done to people that are cruel to animals. It is particularly bad in Africa wear rescuers found this crowned eagle tied to a pole.

Image Via Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary

He was once able to fly the skies freely, but now he was tied up to a pole in a garage in Monrovia, Liberia. Waiting to be sold to the next highest bidder, the eagle’s future wasn’t looking that good. But that’s where the Disney part comes in this story!

An off-duty officer noticed the eagle and inquired about buying it…AND THE STING WAS ON!

Image Via Giphy

The Dodo talked to Luke Brannon, manager for Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary, and he said:

“The officer told the men he wanted to buy it and directed them to where he’d meet them with the money. He rang ahead and organized for officers to arrest them.”

Image Via Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary

The men brought the eagle, tied up in a burlap sack and they were promptly arrested. They continued their lie and said they found it on the side of the road and thought it was an owl. Surprisingly they didn’t claim to be Nigerian Princes as well…

Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary came to the rescue and picked up the eagle to make sure it’s rehabilitation went smooth. Surprisingly there was only one major injury to it’s eye, other than that it was pretty healthy!

Brannon went on to say:

“Upon health checking when we got back, it was clear it had a floating ulcer on its right eye. This would require medicated drops four times daily to heal.

[But] with the eagle being extremely strong and feisty, coupled with the stress factor, it was decided once, twice daily maximum.”

Image Via Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary

Now we know those poachers were idiots, but it turns out that the eagle benefited from their dumb brains even more! They didn’t clip it’s wings or anything so it was a prime candidate to return to the wild.

It was only a couple of days of hanging at the facility and the eagle was already showing signs of improvement. It was moved to a larger flying enclosure and Brannon said, “It could fly well and was feeding well!”

Image Via Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary

After ten days of TLC at the sanctuary, the eagle was already recovered and ready to get back to the wild! They packed the eagle up, they must have been glad they never named him, and ventured off to the spot where he was captured.

Once they got there, they opened the hatch of the carrying case and the eagle let out a SCREECH!

Image Via Giphy

The eagle stepped out, figured out what was going on and prepared for takeoff!

Brannon concluded with:

“Taking flight into the forest was something truly special to witness. We’re thankful to the FDA [Forestry Development Authority], as without their collaboration and quick thinking, this eagle would have either been sold for meat, or as a pet, both of which are illegal.”

Baby Orangutan That Was Rescued Two Years Ago And Could Barely Move Looks Unrecognizable Now

Poachers are the worse type of human beings. That’s saying a lot when you put them past telemarketers and used car salesmen. They are particularly the worst because of this story. I don’t care if you are Putin or Kim Jong Un, nobody should treat orangutans poorly, or any animals for that matter.

Rescuers found Gito back in 2015 and they weren’t even sure if he was alive at that point. He did not look good after poachers had gotten his mother. His hair had all fallen out, was laying in his own urine and he was curled up in a ball.

Image Via International Animal Rescue (IAR)

The IAR wrote on their website:

“At first we thought he was dead. He was lying corpse-like with his arms folded across his chest and this, along with a lack of hair and grey flaking skin, made him look almost mummified in his cardboard coffin.”

Image Via International Animal Rescue (IAR)

They rushed him to the nearest veterinary clinic to receive all the care he needed. He was just starting his long road to recovery. But now he’s looking a bit different…

Image Via International Animal Rescue (IAR)

LOOK AT THAT FACE! Thank goodness that he was saved, because he had so much more life to live!

His hair is all back and his orange skin is back to normal. He is in IAR’s orangutan rehabilitation program and is living in a forest free of poachers now. They are there to understand what it’s like to live in the wild.

Baby orangutans usually live the first several years of their lives with their mothers so rehabilitators keep a close eye on all the young guys there.

Image Via International Animal Rescue (IAR)

Lis Key, the communications manager at IAR said this to The Dodo about their rehab:

“At the rehabilitation center, the young orangutans are constantly monitored. As they grow in confidence and ability, they move from baby school, through forest school and then on to the pre-release island.”

Image Via International Animal Rescue (IAR)

She continued onto say specifically about Gito:

“Out in the forest, Gito loves to climb high and explore. He usually takes his friends with him, but he’s also happy to play on his own. He is learning fast — currently on his list to learn is how to forage the forest for food. Then after that, it will be how to make a nest for the night.”

Image Via International Animal Rescue (IAR)

Gito still has a lot work to do, but Key and the rest of IAR are confident he will be able to be released into the wild eventually.

She concluded:

“Behavioral data is gathered and analyzed to determine when each individual is ready for reintroduction into the wild.

This is the journey that Gito has already embarked on — which one day should lead him back into a safe, protected area of forest where he can resume his life as a wild orangutan.”

Gus Kenworthy Is A True American Hero After Rescuing Over 90 Dogs From A Korean Meat Farm After The Olympics

As far as skiing goes, Gus Kenworthy, silver medalist at the Sochi Olympics, has more on his mind that the slopes.

Image Via Instagram

After medalling in the Winter Olympics in Russia four years ago, Kenworthy made time between his grueling workouts and training to rescue three dogs from homelessness. Mamuchka, and two puppies, Mishka & Jake, now live with the Olympic skier’s mother.

This year, Kenworthy attended the Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, but his goal was much different.

Image Via Instagram

On Saturday, along with his boyfriend, Matt Wilkus, they visited a dog farm, and with the help from team members of Humane Society International (HSI), they rescued 90 dogs that were next on the chopping block, to be butchered for the local meat trade.

Image Via Instagram

The dogs found at the farm were found barely alive in the harsh winter weather. During an interview with The Dodo, Kelly O’Meara, vice president of companion animals & engagement at HSI, told the website:

“The dogs are freezing and exposed to all of the elements, in their metal cages or makeshift wooden boxes.”

Image Via Instagram

She continued:

“In addition, they are overcrowded in their cages, barely able to move around, or tied so closely to their boxes that they can only move forward and backward

They often bark and scramble at the front of the bars of their cages or end of their chains as we walk by, just to get a moment of attention from humans”

Image Via Lee Jae-Wan

Later on Instagram, Kenworthy wrote

“I was told that the dogs on this particular farm were kept in ‘good conditions’ by comparison to other farms.

The dogs here are malnourished and physically abused, crammed into tiny wire-floored pens, and exposed to the freezing winter elements and scorching summer conditions.

When it comes time to put one down it is done so in front of the other dogs by means of electrocution sometimes taking up to 20 agonizing minutes.”

Image Via Lee Jae-Wan

He continued to write:

“Despite the beliefs of some, these dogs are no different from the ones we call pets back home. Some of them were even pets at one time and were stolen or found and sold into the dog meat trade.”

Image Via Lee Jae-Wan

Surprisingly, the owner of this canine slaughter farm had actually contacted HSI about closing the farm due to a change of heart; HSI were more than happy to help that happen. Even though the owner had been farming dogs for over 10 years, he had enough and wanted to close down this nightmare for good.

Image Via Lee Jae-Wan

Despite his past actions, he was eager to see this slaughter farm be gone forever.

“He did not want to send his dogs to slaughter, so he reached out to HSI to help him close the farm, rescue the dogs and transition to a new livelihood of mushroom farming,” O’Meara said.

The HSI is already preparing to transport all 90 dogs to Canada, to help them find permanent & loving homes. Kenworthy even decided to take in one of the rescued dogs himself – a little puppy named Beemo.

Heroic Dog Saves His Family From A Robbery As He Jumps In Front Of Bullets Like A Movie

A German Shepherd, named Rex, who lives with his family in Washington state is being called a hero since last week. Rex, the adorable canine savior, put his puppy-life on the line to save his 16-year-old sibling, Javier.

It is this act of doggy-courage that is rightly earning Rex his heroic accolades.

Image Via Facebook

Q13 Fox News reports that on Wednesday afternoon, Rex and Javier were all alone, when two thieves broke in.

Terrified, Javier ran upstairs and hid in a bedroom closet while he phoned the local police. Meanwhile, super-doggo Rex refused to back down in the name of fear. For Rex, his owner’s life was more important than his own in the moment.

Image Via Facebook

Javier’s aunt later wrote online, that Rex confronted the intruders, who retorted by attacking the defending pupper. Rex then sought strategic retreat, though he was far from backing out of this life and death battle.

Image Via GoFundMe

According to Susy Cadena, Javier’s aunt, ”Rex stormed back to the upstairs floor all beat up and bloody from the beating to check on his master who was still hiding in the closet.

Soon, the burglars proceeded to the upstairs floor and trashed all the bedrooms. As they entered the room where my nephew was hiding in the closet, Rex came out with the little strength he had left in him and threw himself at them as he knew my nephew was in danger.”

Image Via Patch

The thieves proceeded to shoot at Rex, striking him at least three times before they cowardly fled the scene, leaving Javier unharmed. However, as the fight in the house ended, Rex, the hero dog, was entering into a new fight, the struggle for his own life.

As soon as police arrived on the scene, authorities rushed the brave canine to the BluePearl Veterinary Clinic in the town of Renton.

Image Via Sunny Skyz

Rex was sedated and stabilized, but an expensive surgical procedure was needed in order to save his life, and Rex’s family couldn’t afford to provide the crucial care he needed on their own. So facing financial struggle and Rex’s sweet little life, hundreds of strangers responded to the call for assistance almost immediately.

Javier’s aunt started a GoFundMe page with a goal of $10,000 to cover Rex’s stifling medical costs. Just a few days later, more than $60,000 in donations had been collected to go towards saving Rex’s precious life. On Friday, Rex underwent the vital surgery that would help save his life for good. Happily, the surgery was an amazing success and Rex’s life was saved.

Image Via Susy Cadena

That following Sunday, Rex was released from the veterinary clinic with a clean bill of health. Rex is now back home with his family, surrounded by all the tender and loving care his bruised and beaten little body requires.

Rex’s family spoke with The Dodo not soon after:

“Thanks to God, Rex is doing much better. It’s going to take a lot of therapy, time and lots of love from all of us for him to go back to being the sweet dog he used to be.

But don’t doubt for a minute that we will do everything in our power to help him get there soon.”

Circuses Are Finally Banning The Use Of Wild Animals By 2020

Finally, it has officially happened!

The British Government has announced that circus animals will be banned from all future circus performances and shows. Following a public consultation, in which 94.5% of the public said they would wholly support such a ban, Westminster has FINALLY followed in the steps of their neighbors, Scotland.

Image Via Twitter

The Scots officially banned the use of circus animals last year, with the move is hoping to combat the widespread abuse, neglect, & maltreatment of animals confined to the punishing world of the circus.

From startling unsanitary conditions, to brutally enforced labour through punishment, starvation and incarceration, the vast majority of its citizens had enough of the arcane and primitive use of animals in a dying form of entertainment.

However, outside of animals that have been rescued on a more widespread basis, like elephants and lions, there remains many animal still cruelly entertaining crowds of British circus-goers, such as six reindeer, four zebras, three camels, three raccoons, a zebu cattle, a macaw and a fox.

Well over half of UK local authorities have already pledged their commitment to back the refusal that bars circuses from utilizing animals to perform in their boroughs.

World-wide, more than 40 different countries spanning the globe, including most of Europe, Latin America and several Asian countries, have outlawed the old and musty notion of enslaving animals to entertain grinning and jeering patrons of the circus.

Thankfully, DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) have finally followed in those countries footsteps. In 2012, according to The Welfare of Wild Animals In Traveling Circuses (England) Regulations, their provisions read:

“The Government intends to ensure a legislative ban on the use of wild animals in traveling circuses is in place by the time the Regulations expire in January 2020.

The Government does not intend to renew the regulations as it intends to ensure that a legislative ban is introduced by then. The regulations will then be allowed to expire.”

A spokeswoman for DEFRA said in a written statement:

“We remain absolute in our commitment to banning wild animals in circuses and intend to introduce the ban prior to the regulations expiring in January 2020.

Until we are able to achieve this, we will impose the strictest possible standards to ensure the welfare needs of these animals are met.”

The ban will only apply in England and not in Northern Ireland or Wales, as the issue devolves over time.

Speaking in terms of history, wild animals were caught and tamed in the most horrible ways for circuses throughout the 20th century, from the racist and cruel P. T. Barnum’s “Greatest Show on Earth” to the Ringling Brothers’ circus which gave its final performance, that involved an out-of-touch 12 minute tiger act, back in the halcyon days of May 2017.

Sparking a maelstrom of controversy, their head trainer credited the circus with raising and caring for eleven generations of big cat (not unlike the great unveiling of the hidden & inhumane practices at Sea World) others were very happy to see the practice end for good.

Hopefully this marks the end of the cruelty being brought to many animals in the world.

Maybe we will stop also supporting artistic hatchet job movies like The Greatest Showman, since they do nothing to help advance the world as it is today, and instead promote a false-history and a series of lies.

The world is changing for our fellow animals, and we’re glad Britain is finally doing something about it.

Poor Kitten Born With A Rare Extra Set Of Ears, Finds The Best Forever Home For Him

I’m not a huge fan of cats, so please don’t @ me, but this one is actually pretty cute. He looks like he doesn’t want to kill all the humans and that’s the only type of cat I trust.

Meet Frankie, a kitty-cat from Geelong, Australia, which is just outside of Melbourne. He was a kitten lost in the world until rescuers found him and his brother in an abandoned house. When they saw Frankie, their mouths dropped.

Frankie had an extra set of ears as well as a deformed eye, but he still was the sweetest kitten.

Image Via Georgia Anderson’s Instagram

Frankie and his brother arrived at Geelong Animal Welfare Society with a whole bunch of fanfare. The word grew quickly about Four-Ears, and everyone wanted to see him. One of the volunteers, Georgia Anderson, was especially curious about him.

She told The Dodo:

“I’d heard that a kitten with four ears had come in and was in the vet clinic waiting for surgery to remove his eye, so I went up to have a look at him.”

Image Via Georgia Anderson’s Instagram

The two instantly clicked. When she went to pet him, he purred and rubbed his face on her. She was expecting opposite, especially after the traumatic event that he had just gone through.

She also said:

“He would have been in a lot of pain, but the first thing he did when I picked him up was purr and rub his face on mine. I told the girls in the vet clinic that I would foster him for recovery after his eye removal.”

She told the clinic that she would foster the franken-kitten, but she knew this would be a very hard kitten to part with at the end.

When Anderson brought Frankie home, his happy go-lucky attitude didn’t change. She also had three other cats at home, Toothless, Mina and Lucius Malfoy, and a beagle pupper named Dudley.

Safe to say it was a full house.

Image Via Georgia Anderson’s Instagram

As Frankie’s eye healed over time, he wasn’t done with his recovery just yet. As many cats that have problems like the four ears, there were other concerns.

Frankie had an overbite that would have to be worked on later in life. Whoever took him forever would have to take good care of him…

Image Via Georgia Anderson’s Instagram

She continued to say:

“We are still waiting for his adult teeth to grow (roughly another five months), but when they do, his lower canines will need removing.

If they aren’t removed, they will cause damage to his palate when he closes his mouth. His upper canines should be able to remain, but they are probably going to hang out of his mouth like little vampire teeth.”

She tried to give Frankie an eye-patch, but he just shrugs it off.

For now Anderson still has Frankie and I’m not salty or anything but Frankie has more Instagram followers than me. Follow his journey to recovery there!

Dog’s Favorite Toy Gets Discontinued But The Internet Found A Way To Make Him Happy

Whomever says that dogs don’t have amazing memories are very wrong. They remember many things, maybe not the things you want them to remember…but their brains are working overtime sometimes.

That was the case for Jaxon, a 12 year old Chihuahua. He has this favorite toy and anyone who has the same can relate to him. Okay maybe not a toy, but a favorite coffee cup or snack you can relate to right?

Image Via Kelli Brown

Well Jaxon had one toy that he was just in love with. It was a little plush green alligator that was basically like his best friend. They did everything together and it didn’t matter that there were a million other toys in the house. This one was his favorite.

Image Via Kelli Brown

His owner, Kelli Brown told The Dodo of how he first got his paws on the toy they had affectionately nicknamed, “Greenie”:

“He was adopted from our local shelter on December 8, 2014, and I put one of these toys in his stocking the first year we had him (our other dog got the red version — which was a dragon).

And this has just always been the only toy he’s ever played with!”

Image Via Kelli Brown

When our puppers play with a particular toy, they eventually have to get replaced. My dog loves this donut and I have to replace it about every two weeks. It’s kinda like Jaxon’s alligator where he won’t play with anything else…

Well one day Jaxon had to part with one of his “Greenies” and Brown needed to replace it. So she went to her local pet store, and to her dismay they had discontinued the toy!

So she tweeted a cry for help on Twitter…

It read:

“PLZ HELP! This Top Paw toy has been discontinued but it’s the only toy 12 y/o Jaxon will play with,” Brown wrote in a tweet to PetSmart. “Got any laying around? We’ll buy them all up if you’ll let us! Our internet search brought us no luck. Very sad boy here!!”

And of course the Sherlock Holmes’s of the internet sprung into action!

People tweeted back look-a-likes of Greenie but Jaxon was able to spot a fake…

She wrote back though…

“We’ve tried other green toys over the years, he won’t have anything to do with them. And there was a red & yellow version of his fave toy (a dragon!) same size, same fabric, just a different color and no dice. What a weirdo, lol.”

Image Via Kelli Brown

But it’s okay because one Twitter user came through…big time!!

The Twitter user asked an employee’s of Petsmart Facebook group and had no luck and figured to look in one last spot…the clearance bin in the back that had been forgotten about.

And guess what?!

Image Via Kelli Brown

They said:

“I actually squeaked audibly when I found the clearance toy bin in the back where they were tucked away. I immediately told my manager, ‘These are the toys I’ve been looking for for my Chihuahua friend in Kentucky!”

Image Via Kelli Brown

They gathered around 7 or 8 of the toys and asked Brown if Jaxon had a favorite treat and sent off the care package to them!

Brown tweeted that she was, “Happy to say the power of the internet came through BIG TIME. He is so happy right now … thank you all.”

Stray Dog Has Unbelievable Transformation After Being Saved From The Streets

There is something seriously wrong with people that treat dogs poorly. There’s probably some scientific survey that calls them out for the psychopaths that they are…

But this is a story of happiness not sadness!

We will never know who treated this poor pup badly, but at least he’s in a better place now.

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

Meet little Frodo, a pup who was found on the streets of Croatia. Frodo was in bad shapes when his rescuers found him.

It didn’t look good in the beginning, but trust me there’s a happy ending!

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

Frodo (which let’s be honest is such a cool dog name) was found back in May by Klaudija Sigurnjak and there was a lot wrong with the little guy. His fur was very mangy, he looked as if he hadn’t eaten in days and he had a very bad eye infection that made his eyes almost shut.

She told The Dodo:

“I was stunned. I could hardly believe it was really a dog. I immediately set about rescuing him.”

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

After winning over Frodo’s heart with food, he was able to get little Frodo to a veterinarian. His right eye had to be removed due to the infection, but the left one would be able to be saved.

“He was full of fleas and ticks, and starved to the bone. We were not sure whether or not he’d survive.”

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

Frodo was a fighter though, and kept forging on to the road to recovery!

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

His skin became less irritated and his red fur started to grow back in nicely. You would have never believed the story of Frodo being the same dog if Sigurnjak hadn’t taken pictures.

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

What a beautiful doggo!

Sigurnjak said that, “His transformation was phenomenal. We never dreamt that he would be so beautiful.”

This is so true. Has anyone seen such an amazing transformation?! From dog on the street,

But alas, Sigurnjak was just the rescuer. He still had to find a forever home for little Frodo.

Of course with a face like this, it didn’t take long…

Image Via Klaudija Sigurnjak

Marko Duspara and his wife saw Frodo on Facebook and must have instantly fallen in love. I mean how couldn’t you?!

Image Via Marko Duspara

Duspara also told The Dodo:

“I honestly can’t imagine what happened to him back then. I am thankful to everyone who helped him be saved.

He is now a happy dog that knows he is loved and that if he plays his cards right he will get whatever he wants.”

Security Cam Shows Crazy Man Leave Behind A Bag Of Sick Puppies

Dogs are something else aren’t they? They are the most cuddly loving things that have four legs out there! Anyone that could ever think of hurting must have something wrong with their brains, and that’s what’s going on in this security cam screenshot.

Image Via RSPCA

Back in September this camera caught a man in the middle of the night dumping a bag of puppies. Pablo and Penny are their names and thank goodness this story ends with a happy ending.

They were dumped around 9 PM and someone was able to spot them just in time. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or RSPCA for short, came at around 2:45 a.m. They were dumped during a freezing rain storm to top all of that nonsense.

Image Via RSPCA

Sally Bamforth, an inspector at the RSPCA released a press release which read:

“The CCTV clearly shows a man walk past and then stop, before holding a carrier bag over the wall and tipping it out into the garden. Then as he walks away, he pauses as the two tiny, disorientated puppies appear from underneath a bush and potter across the lawn.

They must have been freezing and it’s a miracle that they survived until they were discovered.”

Image Via RSPCA

After rescuing them, their saviors were shocked to find the two puppies in such horrible condition. They had some sort of terrible skin condition which had caused the two week old pups to go bald.

But they began treatment immediately and after a few weeks, the pups were looking better already! And once they were back to their normal selves, they looked like completely different dogs!

Image Via RSPCA

Image Via RSPCA

Again, how could anyone do anything terrible to that face?!

Bamforth went on to say:

“To abandon any animal is cruel but to dump these tiny, vulnerable puppies like this is just unspeakable; watching the footage is heartbreaking, anything could have happened to these little pups.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to those people who found them and called us so we could get them to a vet.”

Image Via RSPCA

Pablo and Penny had been through a lot but their journey to forever homes wasn’t just over yet. They needed to find some friends to hang out with forever. Penny was actually taken in by Sarah Aspinall, one of the RSPCA volunteers.

Originally, it was a fostering situation, but once people started inquiring about Penny she couldn’t let her go. This seems like a common occurrence when one begins fostering a pup.

Aspinall said:

“I took her on as a foster in December and honestly had no intention of keeping her. I was fully prepared to help her and then ensure she found a great forever home.

But when people started ringing to enquire about rehoming her I realized I couldn’t do it — I couldn’t give her away! She was so happy, she loves my other dogs and I couldn’t split them up.”

Image Via RSPCA

As for Pablo? He found a home as well so both pups are just living their best lives possible now that they are abandoned in a garbage bag.

Mhairi Brown, Pablo’s new owner said that:

“We wanted Pablo after reading his story; we knew we wanted to give him the best possible home and future after his traumatic start in life.

He has made himself very much at home and is really a character. He makes us laugh every day with his cheeky antics.”

Sounds like these guys could use some treats!

Dog Sees A Sad Man At The Airport And Proceeds To Go Over And Cheer Him Up

Guys dogs are the best. You can’t tell me this story would be as cute if you replaced it with a cat, lizard, snake or even a damn chinchilla. Dogs hold a certain place in all of our hearts, especially if you continued reading after I threw cats to the curb in that last sentence.

Image Via Giphy

The puppers of the world always know how to cheer us up, and this dog was no different.

Meet Cora the corgi.

Image Via Madison Palm’s Facebook

She’s a rescue pup that has had a rough life. By the time she was eight, she had given birth to 15 litters of puppies and her body was exhausted from it. It was a backyard breeding scenario and she was given up by the breeder after her last litter only had one surviving doggo.

Madison Palm had only intended to foster Cora, but we all know how that always ends up. If you are able to foster dogs, all the power to you, but I could never do that. It would only take a day and I would officially adopt the dog, especially Cora. That’s exactly what Madison did too.

Image Via Madison Palm’s Facebook

Madison told The Dodo that Cora loved being around people and was so affectionate that she was going to train her to become a therapy dog.

She went on to say:

“Cora’s personality is so amazing, she’s a lover. She’s always right next to me and always keeps a close eye if she’s not.

If I’m not available she’ll pick the next closest lap to sit on and nudges your hand unless you’re petting her at all times.

She is SO sweet and is usually the first thing people say about her. Her gentle and kind nature never goes unnoticed.”

Image Via Madison Palm’s Facebook

She loves to talk to strangers on their walks and adventures, and that’s how this airport story happened. Here’s how it went down:

“Cora just kind of walked around in our little seating area and said hi to everyone who was walking by and sitting near us.

She was taking a snooze so I let go of her leash briefly while I relaxed and had a snack; that is when she woke up and snuck over to him.

Before I could even call her she was already at his feet being loved on.”

Image Via Madison Palm’s Facebook

Okay but it gets better, I dare you to not tear up at this next part. Madison went onto check with the man if it was okay:

“I asked him if she was bothering him and with a somber face and watery eyes he said, ‘No, no; I lost my dog last night’.

He scratched behind her ears, patted her on the back and was whispering how cute she was.

He took out his phone to snap a photo and she sat directly in front of him facing him and staying perfectly still for it.

She knows who’s hurting and knows who needs her. I’ve never questioned that.

I’m blown away by her on a daily basis. Who knew a dog, who was unloved for seven and a half years, could have so much love to give?”

Honestly, how amazing is that? I think Madison made the right move to keep this wonderful bundle of joy!

Heroic Cow Flees Slaughterhouse, Then Swims To An Inhabited Island…And They Are Still There

Some of my friends that are vegetarians will definitely love this story, and it may inspire a few of you to go that route too. Me? Sorry cows of the world but a burger tastes too dang good.

This is a story that will go on to inspire millions though, because it shows an enslaved cow get true justice and not stop at anything to get it!

Image Via Giphy

No, it’s not that beautiful cow, but a similar one near Lake Nysa in South Poland.

He/She must have been feeling the inevitable slaughterhouse situation they were in and like many cows before them, they hatched an escape plan.

Image Via Pawel Kukiz

The cow rammed through the metal fence and made a run for the nearby lake. Somehow it swam (I’ve literally never seen a swimming cow, so I fixed that with a quick Youtube search) to a nearby island in the middle of the lake.

After attempting to get the cow back, and failing, the owner Mr Lukasz decided to just make sure Mr./Ms. Cow stayed alive and had enough food on their island.

Image Via Giphy

Pawel Gotowski, the deputy commander of the fire department in Nysa said that the cow is doing fine. They had tried to rescue them, but it just fled to another island.

Another Pawel, Pawel Kukiz, who is a politician and ex-singer wrote a Facebook post about the situation. He vowed to keep the hero cow safe and fed.

Translated it says:

“Yesterday, I posted an entry for a cow-hero who took off from transport to the slaughterhouse and has been moving around lake nyskiego for three weeks.

She fled heroically and swam to an island in the middle of the lake where she remains until today. She didn’t give up on firemen who wanted to transport her by boat, and she’s still on the battlefield. I believe that Mr. Luke-owner of the cow has been delivering food for the animal to the island for three weeks.”

Image Via Pawel Kukiz

He goes on to say:

“I’m not a vegetarian, but fortitude and the will to fight for this cow’s life is not to be of [sic]. Therefore, I decided to do everything to (first) cause the cow to be delivered to a safe place and in the second stage, in reward for her attitude, give her a guarantee of expectancy retirement and natural death.

Prior to the fact that, once the cow has been bought and sponsorship guarantees, it will not take place in opole. Unfortunately, despite the good will of the zoo, this option is not possible because the opole zoo belongs to the so-called. ” approved units ” among EU countries and can only be exchanged with other ” approved ” animals, but for example. He can’t take a stork that doesn’t fly to warm countries or lose money.”

Looks like Hero Cow won’t be going anywhere except hanging out on their island. Next thing you know they will have colonized it with other runaway cows. Then Planet of The Cows is going to happen. You heard it here first…

Therapy Dog Comes To Library To Read But Nobody Showed Up, Then The Internet Responded

Dogs are a man’s best friend for a reason. They know us at our worst and at our best and they love us the same no matter what. That’s why they should never be alone and we should never be without a doggo. Unless you are allergic, that’s really your only excuse.

When Sting goes to the library he likes to be read to. That’s what his job is and he loves doing it. He’s a therapy dog who helps children feel more comfortable with reading. He basically sounds like the coolest dog ever.

Image Via John Muellner’s Facebook

He’s been doing the “Paws to Read” program for the past few years, which is located in White Bear Lake Library in Minnesota. There he helps 4-8 years olds feel more confident in their reading skills. He sits there as they read aloud to nobody except their ever-listening four-legged friend.

Sadly though, last week nobody came to hang out with Sting. And he was sad.

Image Via John Muellner’s Facebook

Apparently February is a slow month according to his handler, John Muellner. Muellner was confident before they went that day that at least a few kiddos would show up.

He told The Dodo:

“I actually knew nobody signed up that afternoon, but Ann the librarian was going to try and drum up some business. And since it’s fairly close to us, I thought why not just go?”

Sadly nobody showed up, but Sting didn’t understand why.

Image Via John Muellner’s Facebook

Muellner later posted on Facebook what had happened at the library, but had no idea it would be so viral.

It said:

“Unfortunately nobody signed up to read to Sting at the White Bear Lake library tonight. If you know of a 4 to 8yr old who would like to read to a dog. Please contact the White Bear Lake library by phone or their website about the Paws to Read program. Sting will be there Feb 21st 6:30 – 7:30.”

Image Via John Muellner’s Facebook

After 23,00 likes, 26,000 comments and 101,000 shares (and growing) it’s safe to say that Muellner guaranteed Sting to have friends for life.

People were going nuts over the post saying things like:

“I wish we were in your state my 4 year old said she would read to him all day long. And sing to him.. sting is precious!!” – Lauren

“Does it have to be a 4-8 year old because this 22 year old will read to the doggo any day of the week.” – Mark

They were even wanting to fly out and read with him!

Muellner went on to say:

“It’s been insane. I guess these days nothing surprises me with the internet. But the amount and with responses worldwide is a bit astounding.”

Sting won’t be having a day off ever again it seems, he’s totally booked for the rest of the month and on now.

Image Via John Muellner’s Facebook

Muellner concluded:

“It’s great to see some of them come out of their shell. I mean think about it, when’s the last time you read out loud for 20 minutes?”
