8 Things You Didn’t Know About Fixer Upper’s Chip And Joanna Gaines’ Parenting Style

It was a sad day for fans of HGTV’s hit renovation series “Fixer Upper” after it was announced that the show would end after five seasons. Taking place in the small city of Waco, Texas, the show follows adorable couple Chip and Joanna Gaines as they meet with families and create their dream home.

It took more than Southern charm, Chip’s hair and an eye for design to make “Fixer Upper” one of the network’s more successful series. Fans of the couple were vocal supporters of the Gaines’ morale and values — their appreciation of love and family transcended the television screen.

Even behind the scenes, it was quite evident that the love the couple has for each other is genuine and heartfelt. Over the seasons, the couple fought a handful of divorce rumors and other scandals, but the two remained strong.

8. On playtime…

“It didn’t take long after we became parents that I realized Chip was always going to be “The Fun Dad”. As I said before, Chip has a childlike way about him! He always has. At work, things are 100% about work, but as soon as he gets home, it’s phones up and playtime is on,” Jo said about her husband in a Magnolia blog post in June 2016.

7. On dating…

“I want my kids to date, I want them to go out. I just remember great experiences as a kid, you know? Driving your car for the first time, picking up a young lady on a date for the first time. All those were little milestones to some extent,” Chip said to People in December 2016

6. On cellphones…

“I don’t even know what’s gonna happen when the girls start asking to wear makeup, but we keep telling our kids they don’t get a phone until they go off to college,” Joanna explained to People in 2016.

5. On technology…

The Gaines family don’t own a television. “They’re so young and we want to give them the chance to have a normal childhood,” Joanna said, according to People in October 2016.

“So they don’t really understand that we have a show.”

4. On being present…

Joanna wrote about Chip in a 2016 blog post: “Whatever they’re passionate about, he’s right there at their side, encouraging them to follow their dreams. With our boys, it’s baseball. With our girls, it’s trips to the bookstore. Just the other day, the girls came home beaming from a daddy daughter date to the bookstore. They felt so loved and had so much fun just hanging out with dad. It’s the little things like this that make Chip a great dad,

3. On being a working mom…

“I explain that I have to work just like they have to go to school. I also let them know what I’m doing at work that day—whether it’s filming the show or going into the office—and what time I’ll be home. Taking a few seconds to let them in on this other huge part of my life has really helped them understand that mom and dad have a big job to do,” Jo wrote in a blog post in April 2016.

2. On the little things…

Jo said in April 2016 on her Magnolia blog, “I have had to find creative ways to connect with the kids during the day now that I work, to let them know I am always thinking of them. I’ll send them a little note in their lunchbox or surprise them and pick them up early from school for a fun date.”

1. On letting kids be kids…

“I tell the kids that you are probably not going to get a cell phone. We want to teach our kids that life happens outside of these devices. It’s just a simple thing to go outside and connect with nature, play with your friends and get dirty,” they said to Entertainment Tonight.

And while their four kids — Emmy, Ella, Duke and Drake — were not featured in every episode, Jo and Chip regularly spoke out about their aspirations for their kids, hoping to give them a normal life. Despite the show’s ending, we’ll always have these Chip and Jo life lessons to live by.

Barack Obama Says During Speech That “Men Have Been Getting on My Nerves Lately”

Remember the good ol’ days when every viral late night show video wasn’t about politics? We used to have things like Chewbacca Mom! When was the last time we got one of those? How about the Damn Daniel kids come back and do something. Either way, it’s safe to say that we are becoming numb to the idiocies of the President.

That’s why it’s always great when good news comes out from everyone’s favorite President, Barack Obama. At least he isn’t becoming buddies with Putin or putting children in cages. Recently Obama was in Johannesburg, South Africa for a speech to the leaders of the Obama Foundation.

Image Via Twitter

During his talk, he brought up the current state of affairs in America, mainly about masculinity. He said, “Women in particular, by the way, I want you to get more involved. Because men have been getting on my nerves lately.”

Haven’t we all really?

via GIPHY

He went onto say:

“Every day I read the newspaper, and I just think: Brothers, what’s wrong with you guys? What’s wrong with us? I mean we’re violent; we’re bullying…you know, just not handling our business. So, I think empowering more women on the continent—that right away is going to lead to some better policies.”

In May, his wife and fellow amazing human being Michelle said the same point. She was giving a speech about how men and women are held to different standards and said:

“I wish that girls could fail as bad as men do, and be okay, because let me tell you, watching men fail up—it is frustrating. It’s frustrating to see a lot of men blow it and win. And we hold ourselves to these crazy, crazy standards.”

via GIPHY

Barack Obama was also in Kenya during this trip for the opening of the Sauti Kuu Foundation which is a youth education and sports center founded by his half-sister Auma Obama. It’s also in the town of Kogelo, their father’s hometown.

If Barack couldn’t get any cooler, he was showing off some dance moves and can we just vote him back in pleaseeeeee.

If you need some more Barack in your life, take a look at these 11 points he made from a recent talk at MIT.

11. He opened the night with saying he was just there to visit his daughter, Malia who is attending Harvard. He said, “Let’s face it, that’s the main reason I came.”

via GIPHY

10. He spoke about having diversity in politics and not just firing everyone from the previous administration. He wanted to make sure he understood the other side of the coin, which makes a lot of sense. He said, “I wanted to make sure his voice was there to counteract the potential biases or the lens through which I might look at a reformed policy.”

via GIPHY

9. He then got in a few jokes about the current POTUS. He said things such as:

“I know it seems like a low bar. I did have a strong bias toward people who just wanted to get things right, get things done, as opposed to people obsessed with, ‘I want to be right, I want to be prominent, I want to have my name in the headlines.'”

via GIPHY

8. He spoke about Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots. He said, “When we reflect on why are we seeing so much gridlock and venom and polarization in our politics, it’s partly because we don’t have a common baseline of facts and information. Other than the Super Bowl, you know, Mr. Kraft.

via GIPHY

7. He touched on thinking he could have played Division 1 basketball. He said, “If I had been really focused, dedicated, and obsessed, I probably could have been a benchwarmer on a mediocre Division I [college] team, like a walk-on kind of guy.”

via GIPHY

6. He kept going on about basketball, touching on the fact that he once played with a famous singer. Of course he didn’t name the person, because Obama isn’t a name-dropper. But he didn’t hold back on the nameless singer, saying, “The guy was terrible. His shot was broke. He took like 25 shots and made like four of them. The game’s to like 21, so there’s only 30 shots to be had. Terrible. You could tell that…this guy has no self-awareness. He thinks he’s good, and he surrounds himself with people who tell him he’s good.”

via GIPHY

5. He also spoke about spoke about the NBA in general, and then criticized it’s way of developing players. He said, “the NCAA is not serving as a farm system for the NBA with a bunch of kids who are unpaid but are under enormous financial pressure. That won’t solve all the problems, but what it will do is reduce the hypocrisy. It’s not as if college basketball goes down the tubes because of it.

via GIPHY

4. He talked about how his life being a public citizen was much more intense than when being President saying, “At least at the top levels of the federal government, people worked harder than in the private sector,” Obama said. “When I came out of the White House, everything looked like it was in slow motion. It was like I was Neo in ‘The Matrix.’”

He continued onto say, “Our folks were putting in 80-hour work weeks and barely getting vacations a lot of the time.”

via GIPHY

3. Barack also thought that social media has a higher calling than just helping people make money. He said, “ISIS can use that tool. Neo-Nazis can use that tool. [Others] have to have a conversation about their business model that recognizes they are a public good as well as a commercial enterprise.

via GIPHY

2. He had strong words about women having equal pay to men saying that, “Let me speak to men in the audience: ‘You should be smacked across the head if you think women should be paid less.'”

via GIPHY

1. He then spoke about how he helped women get their voices heard at meetings, saying, “Guys are loudmouths, and oftentimes brilliant women would not always share their perspectives around the table in the same way or aggressively or talk over people. One trick I had, I would call on people, I wouldn’t just wait for folks to volunteer. If you wait for who’s talking the most, it will be the same folks over and over again.

Guy Trolls His Neighborhood With Fake Posters And They Are Hilarious

Remember the good ol’ days before social media? When you had to actually interact with people and read stuff. Everything wasn’t always in video form, especially things like the classified section.

Well Alan Wagner and Sydney Marquez figured they bring those classic ads you might see on a telephone poll in the most hilarious way. Instead of the traditional meme format, they are making fake posters and putting them up across their neighborhood.

Waitress Gets Groped By A Man While Working And She Gives Him The Justice He Deserves

I’m so glad we are in the age of cameras and how everything is documented so people don’t have to just argue their points. If this had happened 20 years ago, this woman would have had no proof that a man touched her but thank goodness for security cameras and camera phones!

SEE ALSO: After Punching A Guy Who Sexually Assaulted Her, This Female Powerlifter Is Going Viral Due To Her Swollen Knuckles

21-year-old Emelia Holden is a waitress in Savannah, Georgia. She was just trying to work her shift at Vinnie Van Go-Go’s when a dude walked by her a touched her butt. He probably thought nothing would happen to him but he was sorely mistaken.

Image Via Youtube

In the footage you can see Holden minding her own business and then the guy comes up from behind her. She doesn’t think twice about what she does after and pins him against the wall. Police were called and they arrested the guy, only after seeing the footage.

He was held in jail for two days and then was eventually released.

Holden told the MailOnline:

“I just did what I felt was best. I took the guy down and had my co-workers call the police.

As soon as the cops saw the CCTV footage, they immediately arrested the man. He sat in jail until Monday so in my opinion, he got what he deserved.’

Holden had a message for other women who suffer sexual assault in the workplace.

All that I want from my experiences is for women to know that it’s okay to stand up for yourself.

You have every right to wear what you want and you most certainly have every right to defend yourself.”

My favorite part was when she put him to the ground, he probably had to cry in his lifted truck afterwards. You can also see her publicly shame him in front of the rest of the customers. This looks like a tiny dive bar so I bet everyone knows everyone. I don’t think her will be grabbing a beer here anytime soon.

It’s safe to say social media was up in arms over this man’s actions, some people said:

“A good, hard kick to his junk wouldn’t have been remiss, too.”

“I don’t understand why men feel the need to do this sort of thing! it’s a disgrace. So many just raised WRONG..”

“She was sexually assaulted! She had every right to defend herself and it looked like the guy went after her to hit her after she walked away, but she got him first, serves him right! It shouldn’t be called “waitress attacks man” it should be called “pervert gets what he deserves” and also she should be the one that everyone ran to. Who cares if he was a customer.”

Let’s just hope that he gets more than a few days in jail. Too bad his President thinks this is acceptable behavior for men…

Woman Who Just Turned 100 Reveals Which Beer Is The Secret To A Long Life

People don’t just turn 100 years old everyday, but it seems to be happening more often as science progresses. Whenever someone gets to an older age, they are asked what the secret to their long life was. Some say finding someone you love, some have said Pepsi and even others have nodded to alcohol as their fountain of youth.

via GIPHY

Eileen Maher who just turned 100 years old has said the latter of those three and it’s not a beer I’d expect anyone to name and love.

Eileen is from England and she celebrated in her senior living facility with friends and staff members. Her husband Frank passed away three years ago and that’s the reason she moved to the care home. They didn’t have any children. She did speak about how she met Frank almost 70 years ago, saying:

“My friend told me to go to a local hotel as there was a man who was a fantastic pianist.

It turned out to be Frank and I went and fell in love with him – he was a great jazz pianist.”

She went onto say:

“We married in 1951 when I was 33.

We came to Blackpool for our honeymoon and never left.

We used to love to play tennis too but now I just enjoy listening to it as my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be.”

It may have taken a few more years than it should of, but she even celebrated with her first ever selfie!

Image Via SWNS

Since Eileen didn’t have any family members, her friend Pauline Green came to pay her a visit. She trekked 250 miles to celebrate this joyous occasion. Pauline said this of Eileen:

“Eileen was my mother’s best friend.

They went on holidays, even the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), together.

I see her as my auntie, she’s a wonderful woman.”

Image Via SWNS

Eileen was so surprised about her party, she said:

“It’s all been wonderful.

I didn’t expect a party but it’s lovely they have done something so special for me. Being content has helped me reach my 100th birthday.”

Image Via SWNS

So how did she get to 100? Elaine Wright who is the care services manager said that:

“Eileen’s not big on bubbly so her favourite tipple was on tap – Stella Artois!

With a packet of custard creams, it’s her not-so-secret self-indulgence.”

So if you are looking to live a tad longer, maybe past 100 go grab a pint of Stella! You can tell the bartender that it’s for your health.

After Walking 20 Miles To Get To Work, This Student Received A Car From The CEO

Walter Carr is an amazing man. After his car broke down recently, he had no way getting to his job other than his own two legs. So that’s what he used. He would leave his home around midnight to be able to get to his moving company job by 8 AM.

Police happened to find him one morning though, around 4 AM. They listened to his story and that’s where we find our first Good Samaritans. They took him to get some breakfast and coffee. They then dropped him off at his first moving stop.

They dropped Walter off at Jenny Lamey’s home which was his first job of the morning. She asked him if he wanted to rest but he began working right away without complaining. She learned about Walter’s story and was moved to help. He had originally been from New Orleans after Hurrican Katrina had destroyed his childhood home, and she didn’t want all this bad stuff to keep following him.

She wrote on Facebook:

“Yesterday was a long day. But a good day. Chris and I woke up around 5:45am to get everything staged and ready for the movers. Around 6:30am the doorbell rang. It was a police officer. He proceeded to tell us that he had picked up “this nice kid” in Pelham early this morning. “The nice kid”, Walter, said that he was supposed to help us with our move today. It was his first day on the job with this moving company (Bellhops) and he was “training” today.

The officer proceeded to tell us that the previous evening Walter’s car broke down and he didn’t know how he was going to get to work. So he left Homewood at MIDNIGHT and started WALKING to Pelham on 280. He WALKED ALL NIGHT to get from Homewood to Pelham. Because he needed to get to work. For those reading this that are not local, that’s over 20 Miles.”

Image Via Jenny’s Facebook

She continued to say he was the most humble person she had met. She learned that he was a marine, but didn’t get to continue the conversation because the rest of the crew got there. They all worked fast and without complaints, which in the moving business is hard to find.

Her Facebook post continued to say:

“Walter and I emerged from the house and one of the crew, Shawn, saw us and said to Walter “You must be one of the recruits…let me shake your hand. Thanks for showing up!” He extended his hand to shake Walter’s. He was in total appreciation to him for being there. I guess it may be common for a “recruit” as he referred to him as, to not show up leaving the rest of the crew without the extra man they were counting on. I just looked at Shawn and said, “you wouldn’t believe what he did to get here. Tell him Walter”. Walter said “I walked”. That was it. Humble. I asked him to share a little more and when he did, the crew was in awe of him too! I don’t know that Walter would have shared if I hadn’t asked him to.”

Jenny was so blown away by Walter and his unselfish ways, that she started a GoFundMe. The goal was $2,000 but that was chump change compared to what amount it is at now! So far it has raised $44,000 and is still climbing!

Wouldn’t it be nice if that’s where the story ends, but don’t worry there’s more goodness for Walter!

The CEO of Bellhops, Luke Marklin, heard of the story and wanted to help. He drove his family car from Tennessee to Alabama to give him his own car. He said, “I am honestly blown away by him. Everything he did that day is exactly who we are – heart and grit.”

Walter spoke to AL.com saying:

“This was the first job in a long time to give me an opportunity to get hired. I wanted to show them I got the dedication. I said I’m going to get to this job one way or another.

I want people to know this – no matter what the challenge is, you can break through the challenge. Nothing is impossible unless you make it impossible. You can do anything you set your mind to.”

What an amazing young man! You can add to Walter’s GoFundMe here!

Hugh Hefner’s Chef Reveals Secrets From The Playboy Mansion Kitchen

This article originally appeared and was published on AOL.com

The world lost the legendary media mogul Hugh Hefner, a trailblazer of all things style, entertainment and relationships back in 2017. The 91-year-old icon, who died peacefully surrounded by family, was often criticized for his unconventional work — but when it came to food, Hefner did not mess around.

According to reports, the Playboy Mansion featured 12 full-time chefs who cooked for both Hefner as well as the Playmates. It was Hefner’s goal to make the girls “feel at home,” explained the director of food at the mansion William S. Bloxsom-Carter in a 2011 interview with Haute Living.

Hef loved home cooked meals so much that he often brought prepared foods from his chefs to restaurants. The models “pick from the menu, but I have lamb chops and a baked potato sent in from the mansion, so [my meal] is set,” Hefner explained in 2007 according to the Telegraph.

Lamb chops and grapefruit were some of his favorites, amongst fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Sticking to his midwestern roots, Hef had his chefs replicate his mother’s fried chicken. Revealed the chef, “He’s a Midwestern gentleman, so he enjoys those kinds of foods.”

But life inside the Playboy Mansion wasn’t all that pop culture made it seem. “It really annoys me when people say I have a cushy job. They think the girls are in lingerie and six-inch heels standing by my desk and waiting for my next commend,” explained Bloxsom-Carter.

Restaurant Asks Boy With No Arms To Leave Because He Was Using His Feet To Eat

In this weeks round of dumb restaurants doing dumb things, an IHOP is at the center of attention. For some reason one of their managers felt like he needed to stop a young boy with no arms from using his feet to feed himself.

SEE ALSO: Waiter Selflessly Helps Feed Man With Cerebral Palsy And It Will Bring A Tear To Your Eye

This happened to Alexis Bancroft and her three-year-old son William at an Arkansas IHOP. Born without arms, William has always eaten with his feet and had never encountered a problem till now. The General Manager at the IHOP in Hot Springs, Arkansas said that William was not allowed to sit on the table and touch the syrup because it was “unhygienic.”

Image Via Alexis Bancroft

Bancroft asked the manager according to Newsweek:

“I asked her what’s the difference between hands and feet?

I asked, ‘Do you ask all your customers if they’ve washed their hands before they touch the syrup dispensers fist?’”

She also had told the manager they had gone to the bathroom to wash his feet before they sat down. Of course the manager said the manager thing to say with a “Well I didn’t see that.”

Image Via Google Maps

The manager then came back to apologize, but the damage had been done. Alexis had already decided that her family wasn’t going to be eating there and began to leave.

She said:

“Everybody was staring at us and everything. They were going to give us our food, but we decided to leave because of the way he was treated. He was discriminated against for not having arms.”

One of the cooler parts of the story includes another family that witnessed the incident. They chose to also leave due to the manager’s actions. Way to stand together people of Hot Springs!

She continued on to say:

“We go to multiple restaurants around our area, and no one has ever said anything about him. Most people are just amazed that he can even feed himself with his feet.”

Image Via Alexis Bancroft

Not to make it even more creepy and awful but the manager tried to message Alexis on Facebook to try and save some face. Even employees reached out tried to reach out and tell her that they were “completely shocked” by their managers reactions.

A statement was released to Newsweek stating that they, “do not tolerate actions that are or allude to discrimination of any type.” They also said that they would be retraining their staff “to ensure IHOP’s level of service, particularly regarding guests with disabilities, is provided to all.

The franchisee at this location has been in touch with the guest to express his sincerest apologies and will continue to be in communication with her to resolve the issue.”

Deaf Hiker Falls 700 Feet Down A Mountain But When Rescuers Find Her She Isn’t Alone

When 21-year-old Amelia Milling began her hike through the Crow Pass Trail in Chugach State Park, she had no clue that she was about to go through the most trying experience of her life. Chugach State Park is 30 miles outside of Anchorage, Alaska for those of you that don’t know your state parks and isn’t the easiest of trails.

SEE ALSO: Runners Hear Some Rustling Leaves, Moments Later They Are Saving Five Puppy’s Lives

Milling is deaf and one of her favorite things to do is to go hiking alone in the wilderness.

Image Via ABC News

She was about four miles into her hike when the worst possible thing happened. One of her poles broke used to help keep balance during the hike. She lost her footing and began to fall 300 feet down the snow filled mountain. She then hit a large boulder and continued down another 400 feet.

Even though she fell 700 feet, she was still alive. The only thing that was significantly injured was her leg which was a pleasant surprise even though she was in a lot of pain. Out of no where, an animal appeared and she first thought it was a white wolf. Thank goodness it wasn’t a wolf, but a helpful trail dog.

She told ABC News:

“That’s when I first saw Nanook and first I thought he was a wolf. Then I saw the little collar and realized he was there to help me.”

Image Via ABC News

She eventually learned that Nanook was a trail dog, and later found out he was specifically on the mountain to help lost hikers find their way back home.

The two set up camp for the night because darkness was fast approaching. The following day they began to trek back to safety. Eventually they had to cross a river, and Milling lost her footing due to her injured leg and strong current.

But don’t worry, Nanook only had a happy ending in mind for this story. Milling recalled, “Nookie came and grabbed the shoulder strap of my backpack and actually pulled it out.”

Image Via ABC News

Once the two got back to the safety of land, Milling activated her SPOT Beacon which lets rescuers know exactly where she is.

Alaska State Troopers sprung into action and a helicopter came to save Milling as well as Nanook. Alaska State Trooper Lt. Eric Olsen was one of the responders that came to the rescue and he was blown away by Nanook’s help. He said, “When I realized I had a real-life hero dog I called up the owner and he said, ‘No way.'”

Image Via Alaska State Troopers

Nanook’s owner, Scott Swift, recounted that this wasn’t the first heroic act from the doggo. He mentioned that, “There was one other girl about 6 years old — he saved [her] when she fell in the river.”

Props goes out to Milling’s tenacity to keep going along with Nanook for saving her more than once!

From a boss throwing a sewing machine to hands down pants to giving away diamonds, these stories I mean bosses are not to be messed with. Let’s take a look at some of the craziest of the stories, shall we?

Mom Sentenced To Jail Time For Baptizing Her Daughter Amid Custody Battle

This article originally appeared and was published on AOL.com

A North Carolina mother was sentenced to seven days in prison after she had her daughter baptized, according to the Charlotte Observer.

The outlet reports that parents Kendra Stocks and Paul Schaaf were locked in a bitter custody battle over their daughter at the time of the incident.

Court records show that Schaaf, a practicing Catholic who attends mass every week, was ultimately granted full custody of the child, “specifically including decisions concerning religion.”

But despite the judge’s order, Stocks had her daughter baptized in August 2016.

After Schaaf found out about the baptism on Facebook, he complained to the court, saying Stocks had acted in “bad-faith disregard” by not telling him about the ceremony and refusing to give him any role in it.

District Court Judge Sean Smith found Stocks guilty of contempt in March 2017 and sentenced her to seven days behind bars. She will report to jail on Feb. 16 to begin her brief sentence.

11 Facts About Michelle Obama That You Had No Clue About

Remember the good ol’ days when we would talk about what policies the First Lady was proposing instead of what she was wearing? Yeah those were fun but we won’t have those until…Michelle Obama becomes the next President? Who knows if that rumor is true at all, but who knows.

What is true is these following 11 facts that even I hadn’t heard of before I looked them up.

11. When Barack and Michelle were first dating, she asked her brother and Barack to play a game of basketball. In her brother’s memoir he wrote that, “He’s very confident without being cocky. He had passed the test with a definitive thumbs up on his playing and his character.”

via GIPHY

10. Before committing to the life of public service, Michelle was a corporate lawyer. After being done with litigation she began as an assistant to the Chicago Mayor. Afterwards, she was a executive director for the city’s Office of Public Allies.

via GIPHY

9. Michelle’s great-great-grandfather was a slave. Back in 2008 the Washington Post learned of this fact while campaigning in South Carolina. The slave, Jim Robinson, was born in 1850 and was a slave working on a plantation until the Civil War.

She spoke about this during a campaign speech, touching on the fact that the White House was built by slaves and now she was living in it.

8. When going in for an interview to work for the University of Chicago hospital, she brought 4-month-old Sasha. Michelle couldn’t find a baby sitter, and Barack wasn’t available too. She recounted the event to ABC News saying:

“Look, this is-this is who I am; I got a husband who’s away; I got two little babies, they are my priority. If you want me to do the job, you gotta pay me to do the job, and you’ve gotta give me flexibility.”

PS, she got the job!

via GIPHY

7. Her middle name is LaVaughn. Yeah that’s a bit different than the traditional first lady middle name like Jane or Alice or something like that. Her full name before she married Barack was Michelle LaVaughn Robinson. Like Barack, she was from the Southside of Chicago before the Presidency.

via GIPHY

6. She had some poignant advice to her husband before the Democratic National Convention. She told him, “Just don’t screw it up, buddy.”

via GIPHY

5. Only two other First Ladies have a graduate degree. Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush are the only others in history.

via GIPHY

4. She was smart in school, but her teachers still doubted her. Michelle and her brother skipped the second grade because she had already learned to read by four years old. She worked tirelessly in school and she detailed the reason was she said, “I was willing to do that because I was willing to do whatever it took for me to go to college.”

3. Another record, Michelle is tied with Eleanor Roosevelt as the tallest first lady at 5’11″.

via GIPHY

2. Michelle is known for her warm embraces. She has hugged people from Queen Elizabeth to kids of all ages.

via GIPHY

1. She first saw Barack in a law firm directory and wasn’t a fan, claiming his nose was too big.

Fights Are Breaking Out At Build-A-Bear Because Of The Nine Hour Wait Due To Their “Pay Your Age” Day

I’m not sure if you ever went to Build-A-Bear as a child, but I definitely didn’t. I was never into that stuff and I have a feeling my parents thanked my younger self for that fact. The overpriced bears garner a lot of attention from the kids and parents must oblige I guess.

Parents must have been happy when they saw the news that Build-A-Bear was throwing a “Pay Your Age” day. The company released a press release saying:

“As part of the one-day deal, Guests who visit a store in person that day can pay their current age, in dollars (U.S. & Canada) or pounds (U.K.), for any Make-Your-Own furry friend available in the store in celebration of the launch of the Build-A-Bear “Count Your Candles” birthday experience.”

They even gave some ‘pro tips’ such as:

” – Adults, parents and guardians are encouraged to enroll in the Build-A-Bear Bonus Club online before
arriving at stores on July 12 to save time at checkout.

– The person wishing to pay his or her age must be present at the time of purchase.

– Guests at U.S. and Canada stores can purchase a furry friend unstuffed, if they prefer to come back
for stuffing at another time.”

They go on to say some more nonsense but, basically bring your 2 year old in for a teddy bear and you will pay two bucks. The only problem was that everyone and their mother wanted to save some cash today, so the lines were a bit outrageous.

Someone even predicted what would happen and nope it wasn’t The Simpsons this time…

The madness has already been going on today in the United Kingdom with nine hour wait times and yes fights have broken out. Fiona O’Reilly told The Sun:

“It was complete madness. I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few riots over this today.

I managed to get there early and it took just over an hour for me to get all four bears.

There’s already people fighting in the queues!”

Honestly, I would buy an Alex Trebek bear, but I digress…

Another Twitter user said:

“If you feel the need to queue for 9 hours at a build a bear.. making your kid also queue that amount of time… I think you need to re prioritise your parenting… utter ridiculous. Does however highlight the ridiculous price @buildabear charge anyway. Such a rip off #BuildABear”

Parents have been going off on the above post, complaining about the long lines but really what is Build-A-Bear supposed to do about that? They have a product that every nose-pickin kid wants so yeah there’s going to be long lines. It’s like Apple saying you can pay your age for the newest iPhone. Another World War would begin due to that line probably.

Take a look at some of these outrageous lines for yourself. Time is money people, your paying for these dumb bears in full price, trust me.

Yeah you couldn’t pay me to stand in that toddler stricken line…

Brandon Marshall, 16, May Be The World’s Tallest Teenager — And He’s Not Done Growing

This article originally appeared and was published on AOL.com

This is the tallest teenager in Britain — and possibly the world!

Meet 16-year-old Brandon Marshall, who hails from St. Edmunds, Suffolk. He stands at a staggering 7 feet 4 inches. He’s known to his friends affectionately as “tiny,” according to The Mirror.

Brandon says he was average height until the age of nine, when he went through a supersized growth spurt. And doctors believe he is still growing.

“I can’t believe he’s still growing. To be honest, I don’t know what height he is going to reach,” said his mom Lynne Quelch. He’s is currently undergoing testing at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in an attempt to figure out why he is so tall, but some scans show he is missing chromosome 12.

“His height gene is mutated, so they are looking into it further because it has only ever been seen once before,” Lynne added, according to Yahoo News. “But medically, everyday wise, he just gets on with it. He just has to bend through everything so he doesn’t clonk his head.”

Said his mom, “He has got a super king bed at the moment but we are having an eight-foot bed custom built for him.

“Shoes have always been a problem because I will never be able to find them and they are really expensive,” Brandon echoed of his size 17 feet.

If nothing else, his heigh has paid off when it comes to sports. He’s been handpicked to play for the Wales National Basketball Team.

Previously, Broc Brown held the title at 7 feet 8 inches, but turned 20 this year.

Woman Escapes Terrifying Encounter With Man Who Claims To Be ‘Half Alien’

This article originally appeared and was published on AOL.com

Mary Kate Heys is only 20 years old, but she has lived through a real-life horror movie.

The British woman went on a backpacking trip through Australia in early December, and what started as a pleasant adventure turned into a horrifying affair.

On her journey through the country, Heys found herself at the hands of a man who called himself “half alien, half human,” according to NBC News.

via GIPHY

When she met the Swedish 22 year old, he seemed pretty normal. The backpacking friends became close after a few weeks together.

According to the Daily Mail, their casual relationship took a strange turn when he asked her an odd question: “Do you want to go on the adventure of your lifetime?”

via GIPHY

She told NBC News the man had “psychotic eyes,” but nonetheless, she decided to go on a trip with him.

They agreed on a short drive to Brisbane, but he suddenly changed his mind and decided they would go to Cairns, which is an 18-hour drive away.

via GIPHY

While on the trip, Heys told NBC News he dropped a horrifying bomb.

“And he said, ‘I’m gonna say something that might alarm you. But I’m gonna say it in the best way I can.’ He said, ‘I’m half alien, half human,” she said.

Heys added that he spoke with such passion, she “actually kind of believed him.”

Just when she thought it couldn’t get any weirder, he told her that she is an extraterrestrial as well.

“You’re the one, you’re the same as me, you’re the one I’ve been looking for,” he said, according to Heys’ interview with NBC News.

“And he said ‘grab my hand.’ So I grabbed his hand… And he said, ‘Can you feel it?’ I was like, ‘no.’ And he said you’ll feel a warmth, soon you’ll feel a switch come on inside you and you’ll be exactly the same as me.”

via GIPHY

She told NBC News that at this point, the man was so erratic, she thought he was going to kill them both.

Since he would not let her leave the vehicle, Heys did what many people do when they are terrified — she texted her dad.

Her father was able to share her location with Australian police, and after two and a half more hours, police caught up and forced the car to pull over.

“I just leapt out of the car and ran over to the police and I couldn’t let him go of the policeman like I was in some weird shock,” Heys told NBC News.

“I was crying and shaking.”

These Are Meghan Markle’s Favorite Foods

This article originally appeared and was published on AOL.com

According to her now-deleted blog and Instagram, Meghan Markle is a self-proclaimed foodie. Not only a cook at home, she regularly creates her own recipes and loves testing out new things.

The California native has confessed she loves both cooking everything from pasta to creating her acai bowls. But what exactly is in her diet that gives her that royal glow? Well, not everything she eats is as healthy as you’d think.

10. Cacio e Pepe

According to an old interview, the traditional Italian dish is one of Markle’s favorites because of its simplicity. “It’s so easy!” she once said. Made with black pepper and cheese, it’s a cult favorite amongst many.

via GIPHY

9. Macaroni and cheese

Markle loves a good bowl of this childhood favorite — and it doesn’t even have to be homemade!

She revealed, “I now buy the Annie’s organic one if I’m craving it, but I throw some frozen peas into it and have this gooey simple childlike meal. I used to cook it for the kids I would babysit and I always enjoyed feeling like a kid and eating it with them.”

via GIPHY

8. Acai Bowl

Acai Bowls “remind” the California native of home.

She created this recipe with blogger Athena Calderone — and it looks amazing.

via GIPHY

7. French fries

Markle is a self-proclaimed french fry connoisseur. “It’s its own food group for me,” she once explained to Delish.

When she was living in Canada to film Suits for multiple seasons, she also became a fan of poutine, a Canadian favorite.

via GIPHY

6. Turkey Loaf

It’s one of her childhood comfort foods because it’s a dish that her mom regularly created when she was younger. It has a “trinity of flavors,” she once explained.

This turkey loaf recipe is our winter go-to.

5. Other things that “remind” the actress of California sunshine are fish tacos…

4. …and green juices.

3. Ina Garten’s engagement chicken

The infamous recipe is what Meghan created the night Harry proposed! A simple concoction of lemon juice and pepper, the roast has been part of the success stories for many couples.

via GIPHY

2. Poached eggs with avocado

It’s one of her breakfast go-tos. “If I’m at a hotel I will likely order poached eggs and toast with avocado,” she exclaimed.

via GIPHY

1. Wine

Meghan loves a good glass of vino. She’d rather opt for a “big, beautiful red” instead of dessert. Markle even named her lifestyle blog “The Tig” after her favorite wine, Tignanello.

She said, “The impetus of the name is from a wine called Tignanello. My sip of that wine was my first moment of understanding the nuance people had always described in wine – the tasting notes, the layers. It was such an ah-ha moment, so I took the nickname “Tig” and translated it for all of those moments of getting it.”

11 Things That Barack Obama Spoke About At His Secret MIT Speech

Someday we will get to tell our children about getting the opportunity to vote for the first black President and then right after we will have to tell them what followed. We should probably just stick to the happy times though like Obama’s jokes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner or when he said “Thanks Obama.”

via GIPHY

Well earlier this year, Obama made another speaking appearance during his post-presidency days and it was at a MIT conference in Boston. There was one weird part of this event though, and it was for people to not post any bit of it to the interwebs.

That rule was broken though after some magazine called “Reason” released audio of the entire event. It was a conversation with the general manager of the Houston Rockets, Daryl Morey, as well as Jessica Gelman, CEO of Kraft Analytics.

So let’s take a look at some of the highlights!

Girl Draws Herself In 50 Different Variations Of Cartoons And The Results Will Blow Your Mind

Sam Skinner needs to be hired by some big movie or TV studio because her illustrations are on point. She recently thought she would take on the challenge of drawing herself in 50 different cartoon styles.

She spoke to Bored Panda and told them this:

“I decided to do the challenge because I’ve seen so many people do it online and was absolutely inspired by them. Doing this project was simply to help me become more familiar with doing graphic/digital design.

That being said, a few of the characters in the style challenge are definitely more original than others, mostly because this was simply a project for me to practice digital line work, so a few came out looking like a basic re-colorization of a character which already exists.”

Since my favorite cartoon is Rick And Morty, I think Justin Roiland should hire Skinner and get her famous!
