Having a baby is hard enough — but the cost? For parents in America, they face some of the highest medical bills despite being insured.
New research has recently revealed that the cost of giving birth in America with employer-sponsored health insurance has increased significantly in the past few years.
The study, which was published in the January 2020 edition of the journal Health Affairs, looked at over 650,000 women who delivered babies in the the United States between 2008 and 2015, “before and after” the Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010.
These women were then all enrolled in massive employer-sponsored health insurance plans that tend to cover more than those purchased by small businesses or individuals — only covering half of U.S. births.
“How old should kids be to bathe alone?“ How old were your kids when you let them bathe by themselves, no adult in the room? I have an 8 yr old son who can pretty much bathe by himself but I still sit in there with him to make sure he does it right.”
The community advice seemed to be pretty consistent across the board. Allow them to bathe alone not based on their age, but on whether they were capable of doing so. There were a variety of ages that parents allowed their children to bathe alone, ranging from ages 4 to 8 years old. What age did you let your children bathe alone?”
“I wash my 6-year-olds hair and she washes the rest of her body. I leave her alone to play afterward.“
“My girls are 7 and 8 and I started teaching them to bathe themselves around the time the youngest was 5. They bathe themselves clean now. No issues.“
“I sit in the room or in the hallway right outside the door with the door open with my almost 4-year-old. If I walk away he has to sing his ABCs until mommy returns. Its normally just to get his 10-month-old brother out of his crib.“
“Our daughter started showering herself at 8. She could bathe herself for years but the hair we always have to do or at least supervise for her until recently. She’s 9 now and can do it all herself just fine. I remember doing it completely myself at like 6 though so every kid is different.“
“Mine is 9. He has been showering by himself for at least a year. He STILL doesn’t always do it right but I just send him back in to do it again or rinse the shampoo he missed out in the sink. I’m pretty much under the impression my boy isn’t going to shower properly the first time until he gets old enough to start wanting to impress a girl because he really could care less if he’s clean at this point. I do all the caring about that for him. He just handles the eye-rolling on the way back to the shower.“
The most important factor in answering this question is safety. The Parents.com team makes a very good point worth sharing, “Bathing alone can be risky because of drowning dangers, and it can take just a few seconds for even older kids to slip and drown in only a few inches of water. Because of this, many experts suggest waiting until your child is at least 8 before allowing him to dunk in the tub alone.”
Every child reaches milestones at their own pace. As a mother or a father, we have to decide when they have reached that milestone of showering/bathing themselves. I have four children and they all began bathing themselves at different ages, but by 8-years-old they were all bathing themselves with very little help from me.

When no one believed a teenage girl from Florida that her father was abusive towards her and their family’s dogs, she took matters into her own hands.
According to WEAR, no one believed the 14-year-old daughter of 47-year-old Damon Richard Becnel when she told people that he had been abusing her for years. So, in order to stop the abuse once and for all, she planted a video camera in their bedroom.
After catching Becnel in the act, the brave teenager turned the video evidence into the authorities. The video has now spread across social media. The teen’s mother gave WEAR permission to share the video, so long as her daughter’s identity isn’t revealed.
Warning: The video you are about to watch may be disturbing to some.
A 14-Year-Old Girl Installs Video Camera in Dad’s Home When No One Believed He Was Abusing Her
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the man in the two videos the teen turned over is, in fact, the 14-year-old’s father. The video shows Becnel yelling at her and threatening to kill their dogs. The abuse then escalates and Becnel becomes physical with the teen.
He is seen throwing his daughter against a wall and headbutting her. The teen is heard in distress, constantly begging her father to stop.
The 14-year-old’s mother told WEAR that she knew her daughter had tried reporting the abuse for years and that no one was believing her. It’s unclear how much the woman knew about her daughter’s abuse.
The video is reportedly six minutes long. Becnel, according to The Destin Log, has been described as a prominent businessman within the Destin, Florida community, who is a managing partner for at least 26 businesses. A woman, who used to work with Becnel, says she’s outraged that the father was allowed out on $4,000 bail.
“His behavior. We’ve all seen bits and pieces of it, but not that side of him in the familial sense. He committed acts against two of the most innocent creatures this earth has graced us with, a child and a puppy. That’s what I think everyone is up in arms about. I think it needs to be handled the right way or it’s going to be really bad.”
She continued, “There’s a lot of things that get brushed under the rug with families that have been here for a long time and have worked very hard to have a well-respected name. It just seems this generation of their children are running wild and they’re not held accountable for anything.”
Another member of the community, Carmel Ceravolo, agrees and also hopes Becnel isn’t just let off with a slap on the wrist because of his prominence within the community.
Ceravolo said, “I’m hoping local law enforcement, judges, and state attorneys do their due diligence to ensure justice is served. We need to ensure this guy does not just get a slap on the wrist because he’s from Destin and has money.”
Mom Fights for Custody
Shockingly, because the teen’s mother did not have custody of the girl, Department of Child Services’ safety plan allowed Becnel to choose who would look after her. He chose one of his best friends. According to WEAR, the mother is now fighting to get custody of the teen.
After filing a Petition for Injunction Against Domestic Violence, The Destin Log reports that the mother claims her daughter asked her father is “he was going to kill her, to which he replied ‘maybe.’”
And after he reportedly confiscated the teen’s phone, ″(She) escaped Damon’s house while he was asleep and walked miles to Walmart in Destin, purchased a burner phone and called her babysitter.”
According to The Destin Log, Becnel was charged with child cruelty and cruelty to animals on January 2.

Stephen Hill arrived at the farm where he works in Corryong, Victoria, at four in the morning when he quickly realized the blazes were approaching the town. He then grabbed his herd dog Patsy and rushed to the barn where hundreds of sheep were gathered.
The 6-year-old shepherd mix quickly got to work helping wrangle the farm’s livestock away from the flames and into another barn for safety.
All but just six of the 220 sheep survived thanks to Patsy’s help and guidance — especially as it was in the dark.
“If you haven’t got a good dog, you can’t do so much with the sheep,” Hill shared with NBC News. “They’re really difficult to move in any way, shape or form unless you have a good dog.”
“It’s unbelievable and it’s only going to get worse. That’s why we put Patsy’s story out there,” Cath added. “People need something positive.”
One filmmaker is going viral after he utilized his video-editing skills to ask his long-time girlfriend a very special question.
Lee Loechler proposed to his high school sweetheart, Dr. Sthuthi David by editing themselves into her favorite movie, Disney’s animated “Sleeping Beauty.”
He then screen his altered version for David in a “crowded” theater which was made up of the couple’s friends and family.
Then Loechler posted the video of David’s reaction on YouTube on January 9 where it quickly went viral.
“It’s not every day you get to propose to your High School sweetheart. For the past six months, I’ve been working with an illustrator to animate my girlfriend and myself into her favorite movie, ‘Sleeping Beauty,'” the caption for Loechler’s video reads.
A magnificent photo of a tigress walking through a forest along with her five cubs is popping up everywhere for the best reasons.
Shared by Parveen Kaswan who works for the Indian Forest Service – he additionally is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
After efforts to help aid the species to come back from being on the verge of extinction, the tigress spotted with the five cubs – two more than the average litter, is sharing hope for all of the world too see.
“This is magical picture. Count the cubs with tigress. I know for a reason how few people will be elated after seeing this. Efforts are helping in making this species bounce back from verge of extinction.”
A young 23-year-old began to feel very ill in the summer of 2016 after wrapping up a shift at a German metal-fitting company and took himself to the hospital when he could not stop vomiting and barely could stand up.
Then, at age 26, he fell into a coma and suffered severe brain damage but the cause was identified much later as mercury poisoning.
Doctors then realized that the man had been ingesting lead acetate and mercury for years but no one was sure how he could come in contact with the toxin. That is, until two other co-workers fell ill in the exact same way.
The case came together in 2018 after one colleague at the company, ARI Armaturen, noticed a white powder on the bread during his lunch break.
Later, video surveillance were installed at the workplace which captured the suspect, Klaus O, 57, placing the substance on his colleagues’ sandwiches.
Klaus had been working at the factory for 38 years and was convicted of attempted murder as well as bodily injury in march in three cases after two other colleagues suffered kidney damage.
“When I first moved to the States, I had to sell everything that I owned: my car, my computer, my apartment, everything. And I came with one suitcase, a doona [duvet] and a pillow. And I actually lived on… well I paid for a furnished apartment so I had somewhere to stay, but I lived on $60 a week, which is not much. I’d go to this supermarket called Trader Joe’s and get corn chips and stuff and I was surviving on corn chips and guacamole.”

Baby Yoda has been the most googled “baby” of 2019 beating out Psalm West, Baby Shark and even Royal baby, Archie thanks to the Star Wars spin-off, The Manadlorian hit Disney+.
Rightly predicting just how popular the character would be, producers decided to invest a lot and I mean A LOT into the Baby Yoda puppet and I think we can all agree it paid off.
Adam Pally, who played a Scout Trooper that punched Baby Yoda, cited at the Television Critics Association (TCA) Winter Press Tour:
“I remember the first take that I did when I punched it. They called ‘cut’ and Jon [Favreau], who was watching on a monitor in his office, came down and said, ‘I just want to let you know that this is the hero [expensive puppet] and it costs, like, $5 million. I want you to hit it, but I want you to know that.”
The Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa, named by Elon Musk as the first passenger that Space X will send to the moon is coincidentally looking for a life partner he can give the moon too — I mean, travel to the moon with.
The 44-year-old entrepreneur will be the first civilian passenger to take a journey around the Earth’s only natural satellite in 2023 on SpaceX’s Starship rocket.
In addition to being the first ever commercial trip, Maezawa’s journey will also be the first lunar journey any human has made since 1972.
And what better way to celebrate this journey than with a dating contest!
On his site, the billionaire explains his current plight along with his (hopeful) plans for the future.
“As feelings of loneliness and emptiness slowly begin to surge upon me, there’s one thing that I think about: Continuing to love one woman. I want to find a ‘life partner’. With that future partner of mine, I want to shout our love and world peace from outer space.”
Regardless if you are his future space-loving-Stepford-wife or not, that date would be out of this world!
