Conspiracy Theorists Claim First Lady Melania Trump Has Been Using A Body Double

Internet conspiracy theorists are beside themselves amid claims that first lady Melania Trump has a body double.

The only “evidence” of this theory is footage taken of Trump standing next to her husband, President Donald Trump, as he gave remarks regarding the Iran nuclear deal and hurricane relief for Puerto Rico Friday.

In the short clip, the president calls out Melania Trump during a press conference, a move conspiracy theorists on Twitter claim to be an effort to cover up his wife’s alleged absence.

“My wife, Melania, who happens to be right here,” the president said.

Some commented that the differences lie in the first lady’s details: the sunglasses, her coat and the shape of her nose.

And, as Newsweek noted, since the footage made its debut online, Google searches like “Melania Trump double” and “Fake Melania” have shockingly seen a spike online.

But it wouldn’t be the first time a woman in the political sphere faced accusations of using body doubles.

During the presidential election last year, then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton began trending online with hashtags such as #bodydouble or #hillarysbodydouble.

Conspiracy theorists fingered Teresa Barnwell, a comedian who professionally impersonates Hillary Clinton, as the former Secretary of State’s stand-in at 9/11 memorial event.

And still, a year after the Clinton body double claims were denounced as false, Melania Trump is now facing her own side-by-side image comparisons by social media.
