It’s a Christmas miracle!

Mariah Carey completed her 25-year journey of getting “All I Want For Christmas Is You” to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart this week, making the modern classic the first holiday hit to sit atop the chart in 60 years.

Billboard announced the historic achievement on Monday afternoon after weeks of speculation that Carey would finally achieve the feat, which has long been a goal of hers since she originally released the song in 1994 as part of her Christmas album, Merry Christmas

Carey reacted to the news with a simple tweet, saying, “We did it.”

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” jumps up the charts every holiday season, having previously reached the top 10 in December 2017 and hitting its previous peak of No. 3 last year. It ascended to No. 1 from No. 3, which it also reached last week.

Carey’s holiday smash is just the second holiday song to ever top the Hot 100, with the only previous No. 1 being The  Chipmunks’ “The Chipmunk Song,” which topped the charts for four weeks from 1958 and into 1959. In its announcement, Billboard noted that holiday songs were ineligible on the Hot 100 for several years (from 1963 until 1972, and then again from 1983 until 1985), being ranked on a separate holiday chart instead.

“All I Want For Christmas Is You” marks Mariah Carey’s 19th No. 1 on the Hot 100 (and her 80th week at the top), moving her within one of The Beatles’ overall record of 20 No. 1 hits. She already holds the record for most for a solo act.
